Family celebration
Nancy E. from Bluffton, SC recommends this property.

Great house. The four bedrooms and four and 1/2 baths were great since we had six adults. Super kitchen. Beautiful view from almost every corner of the house. Deck sitting a favorite past time. Kitchen well equipped with over the top appliances. Privacy of the home was an extra for us! Hope to return in the fall.

Needs work
A guest from Charlotte, NC does not recommend this property.

This is a beautiful home. Absolutely loved the colors and stonework, fabulous hardwoods throughout the house. There are windows everywhere - which is good and bad as there are no window coverings. This means that the sun wakes you up early in the morning, when you get out of the shower or are getting dressed that you are in front of a window (yes, even windows in the bathroom), and that cold air seeps in. The kitchen has beautiful granite countertops and a terrific gas stove; the island has a built in steamer that we discovered was not hooked up properly and we had to clean up a small flood. The master bath has a great jacuzzi tub (surrounded by windows) and a huge open shower with three shower heads. The floors are marble. We had to buy a space heater because the bathroom was so cold. The master bedroom fireplace was not usable nor was the top half of the dishwasher. The first night we only had heat downstairs; turned out it was a circuit breaker issue but the upper bedrooms got down to 50 degrees - not great when you have a toddler and older relative staying on that floor. Luckily the management company got someone out the next day; it was a simple issue but really think someone would have noticed if the house was checked before our arrival.

Corey yearly trip to the mountains

Stayed for 4 days in October, 2013
Apon arrival we were very impressed with the size of the house, kitchen and eating area were perfect for our large group. Great location and very secluded. We went to Grandfather Mountain (which is a must see) and Teeetsie Railroad which were about 40 minutes from house. Overall one of the best mountain trip we have been on! Thanks for a great weekend! Look forward to booking house again

Overall our stay was very good. The steep driveway caused us some concern because we had older people with us who were not able to make the climb up the hill to the car. We opted to go into W Jefferson for groceries and just stay at the lodge rather than trying to do any sight seeing. The lodge was great! We didn't have any hot water the first night, but a call from the owner remedied that quickly Friday morning. I would recommend this to someone younger and definitely with 4 wheel drive.

We loved our stay at the New River Bend Lodge! It is very spacious and has a great layout for a group. While it's a work in progress, the space is phenomenal and the kitchen is ideal for large group meals!

High End Disappointment
A guest from raleigh, NC does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in July, 2013
First of all, let me state that the property management of this home are exceptional individuals to work with. The remote went astray and they replaced it within minutes of us reaching the house. The house has high end appliances which is great. The kitchen is a little to large so not easy work in. The furniture in the main living error is worn and really should be replaced. The recliner was broken. There is no chest in the bedrooms to put your clothes away. The windows have no drapery, so no privacy. Especially the master since you can see in from the deck. Their are a number of areas in the house that have not been finished, including the downstairs family room which could not be used. No garage parking. Its quite a distance from the river and the grass was grown up to mid calf. If you don't have four wheel drive you might have a small issue with getting back out of the driveway as it is steep. The internet TV was an issue for my family, especially on the day it rained. This house could be a fantastic rental if a little more investment was made. Its was not a bad price though for a four bedroom house.

Nice, could be great
James F. from West Grove, PA recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in July, 2013
The house itself is very beautiful architecturally. Very spacious and in a great setting. The house was somewhat dissappointing because it is not finished. There are missing outlets, lights, trim, etc. Some of the bathrooms have tile that is not grouted. The "finished" lower level has a kitchen/bar that is not complete and was musty perhaps because the ac was off. The lower level terrace was blocked off. The house needs better maintenance. When we drove up, the weeds were overtaking the driveway making it look almost abandoned. The kitchen was sparesly equipped but again, the range hood wasnt done, backsplash tile, etc. While we were there, the wifi stopped working as did one of the dishwasher drawers. There is no cable/dish TV; it is an "internet" TV so you have to request the channels/movies you would like to see which was frustrating and since the internet went out mid week, no TV either. We didnt mind since we were outside most of the time but annoying for the kids. The wine cooler was not hooked up. As a "luxury" rental, there are things that need attention. Overall, it is a beautiful place and we did enjoy ourselves.

Property is priced appropriately due to some of the little tweaks that still need to be completed. Luxury feel but not luxury prioced. Great section on the river and lots of space for all friends and family. Wi-Fi back up and going, local thunderstorms knocked it out and it was not reported till after they left. Be sure to read all the reviews first!

very disappointed in this rental as advertised
Marilyn M. from Anniston, AL does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 9 days in June, 2013
The part of house that is finished is georgeous, but this house is not as advertised. The basement was very much under construction , therefore not usable for sleeping as flooded while we were there. The kitchen was not well stocked for cooking or dining. One day will be magnificent, but not rent ready. Much too expensive at this time for a house under construction

Property Manager Response:
Response from Ashe High Country Vacations LLC
We understand some areas of the home are still under contruction but those are locked off from use and not advertised. There was an issue with the AC which caused a leak but it was dealt with very quickly. Kitchen is fully stocked, it's just a huge kitchen so items are somewhat spreadout through the numerous cabinets.

New River Bend Lodge less than ideal for Merlefest
A guest from Shaker Heights, OH does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in April, 2013
The house itself is large and impressive but obviously unfinished as far as construction is concerned. The lot is nicely located for river access. There were mice and evidence of mice present. The dishes and glasses were dusty and required washing before use. One of the double drawer dishwashers was non-functional. The most significant drawback was location/access to the property. I doubt we could have found it if we had arrived after dark. The locked gate was not listed on the directions and signage (address marker) was not visible in the dark. We would not want to rent this property for Merlefest. It might be okay as a destination if one was planning to stick close to home but it was challenging to return to at night after a long day in Wilkesboro. Thanks

Property Manager Response:
Response from Ashe High Country Vacations LLC
This house is a little off the beaten path but privacy and almost 500' of river frontage make this a unique and hard to find vacational rental. Unfortunately little critters can be an issue for vacation rental homes especially since they are not inhabited full time, the property is on a pest control program. Please keep in mind this vacationer just does not recommend for Merlefest which is in Wilkesboro, a good 30 minute drive away.
