Viechtach is one of the most popular holiday resorts in the Bavarian Forest. Beautifully located in the valley of the "Schwarzer Regen" river, the town is known for its mild spring - and autumn climate, caused by two ridges of the Bavarian Forest in the North and South. Viechtach and its surrounding area are also called "the green heart of the Bavarian Forest". Due to the fog-free location and little cloud cover the Institute for Applied Geodesy has opened a satellite station near Viechtach. Its logo of the "Grosser Pfahl" (geotope) and "Schwarzer Regen" river shows that Viechtach wants to offer you "a holiday amidst nature".
