Arrowhead Getaway Information

It's not often that a closed ski area gets a new lease on life, but that's what happened at Arrowhead in Claremont, NH. With the hill's base practically downtown, the area's original owners figured they had a good thing going when Arrowhead opened in 1962.

As so often happened to small, undercapitalized ski hills, Arrowhead fell victim to a string of poor winters and changing customer expectations. Ownership eventually went to the City of Claremont. But in the winter of 2002-2003, a dedicated group of volunteers, under the auspices of the Arrowhead Recreation Council (ARC), revived the skiing here, thanks in part to some help from a cold and snowy winter.

With about 500 feet of vertical Arrowhead qualifies as more than a bump on the map, and rises dramatically above the downtown business district. A couple of pretty good steep trails- Upper/Lower Face and Wheelock's Run - provide a worthy challenge for better skiers and snowboarders. Those trails are accessible from the top of the poma, as are five intermediate trails with a more reasonable pitch. A handle tow serves a wide and friendly field for beginners just above the lodge. For those of you looking for a terrain park, check out the Ant Hill Terrain Zone on the side of Main Slope.

A comfortable A-frame base lodge with a large deck sits at the base of Arrowhead, and is also the focal point for warm-weather activities. A true year-round recreational area, Arrowhead offers snow tubing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, a snowplay area and skating in the winter months, as well as access to a snowmobiling and winter ATVing trail system. You can even do some snow cat skiing at Arrowhead! And when the snow melts away, there is still plenty more mountain biking and hiking to be done all summer long!

ARC continues to enhance the skiing at Arrowhead, striving to make it a fine resource for the city of Claremont and the surrounding area, as well as a fun and affordable family oriented ski area.
