Stayed for 3 days in December, 2012 great location!! cabin is a 20-25 min drive to the snow play areas and very comfortable for 7 people and a large size dog. cabin is fully equiped especially kitchen! had a large fenced in yard. couple of negatives- cabin is facing busy street (4 stars instead of 5) and mattresses on pullout beds are too soft. It would have been nice to have met someone or at the very least have a phone call from the property management checking in with us and welcoming us. Very impersonal and seemed all about the money and fees with a very long list of what you would be charged for if we didn't do everything as directed. Also thought the cleaning fee was excessive, I have cleaned homes in the past for a living and for how much we had to clean up ourselves and then have to pay to have someone clean up behind was overpriced. Yes we had a great time but in the future will probably try somewhere else less expensive and with more personal touch and customer service. The roof is damaged, and the window in the master king room was cracked. Also the back yard needs to be cleaned up, if you have kids that want to play out there, or have animals (dogs). Finally, there should be no charge to use the lake when you are paying a significant amount of money to stay there. Plumbing Disaster Vacation A guest from Palo Alto, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in June, 2008 On the first day, the plumbing backed up into the showers, although the toilets were functional. The plumber spent most of two days repairing and installing new pipes under the cabin, requiring our presence throughout the noise and commotion. One day later the garbage disposal backed up. My husband was able to fix that. On our last day, the clean out in the back yard came apart and fluid & debris came out of the clean out. The manager was quick to send a plumber, but has not offered any reduction of rent as a result of our inconvenience (loss of 2 days vacation). A cleaning crew was sent to clean the bathrooms midday the day after the plumber left. While this was considerate, waiting an additional day to use the showers was very inconvenient. There is no notice in the cabin warning occupants of the fragile nature of the garbage disposal. Basically it should not be used. Using the washing machine caused the clean out to open. Because our relatives were only four doors away, and our dog was welcome (very safe in her crate on the back porch, with generous fenced exercise area available), the location was great. Aside from the plumbing, the cabin is quite comfortable and good for a family with small children. Parking is difficult, and initial access (a steep incline) to the front door is difficult for senior citizens. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2008 THE ONLY THING THAT WE MIGHT LOOK FOR IN THE NEXT CABIN THAT WE RENT IS A STREET THAT IS LESS BUSY. WE HAD OUR BULLDOGS WITH US AND WE WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE WALKED THE DOGS IN FRONT OF THE CABIN. THE STARES OFF THE DECK WERE A LITTLE TO DIFFICULT FOR THEM TO HANDLE. YOU HAVE TO KEEP IN MIND THAT THEY ARE BULLDOGS. MOST DOGS WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE. ONCE WE MADE IT DOWN, THE BACK YARD WAS PERFECT FOR DOGS. VERY SAFE AND SECURE.SHORTY HAD A GREAT TIME! HE FOUND A SOCCER BALL THAT SOMEONE HAD LEFT BEHIND! I HAD TO TIE THE TEATHER BALL UP HIGH SO THAT HE DIDN'T DANGLE FROM IT. DON'T KNOW HOW HE DOES THAT. HE IS LIKE A BOULDER WITH LEGS. MY FAMILY HAD RENTED THREE OTHER CABINS AND WERE CLOSE BY.WE ALL HAVE WONDERFUL CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF TWAIN HARTE. OUR GRANDPARENTS BUILT A CABIN BACK THEIR, BACK IN THE FORTYS. WE SPENT OUR SUMMERS,HORSE BACK RIDING, SWIMMING AT THE LAKE ALL DAY, GOING TO THE OUT-DOOR MOVIE AND SKATING RING. WE WERE EVEN ALLOWED TO WALK BACK TO THE CABIN AT NIGHT WITH A FLASH LIGHT! OH, AND OF COURSE WE COULDN'T WAIT TO PLAY MINATURE GOLF. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY CHANGES OVER THE YEARS , BUT TWAIN HARTE IS STILL A WONDERFUL PLACE TO VACATION. THE CABIN WAS SOLD MANY YEARS AGO BUT WE STILL COME TO TWAIN HARTE TO GATHER WITH FAMILY AND SPEND SOME VACATION TIME. It is close to one of the main roads in Twain Harte but you don't really notice it. The only thing I didn't like was that you really needed to go to the next road to turn around and park in front. That wasn't much of a problem since it still was our favorite place out of 3 that we have rented in the area.
