A hidden gem in historic downtown St. Augustine, our home at Oasis House is a vintage bungalow that has been completely renovated inside. Its modest curb view conceals brand-new furnishings, appliances, d├ęcor, a big back garden with pond, and a huge deck!

Located on a quiet street just minutes on foot from exciting city sites, Oasis House is a single-level home with a driveway and garage, 3 bedrooms that sleep 5 people, 2 baths, and a sleeper sofa for up to 2 extra guests. If you enjoy a feeling of quiet and privacy in the midst of a convenient city location -- or if you love period cottages bursting with character and beauty -- Oasis House is the place you must stay next time you're in St. Aug!

On our rustic wooden back deck, you will overlook our large yard, with a lovely pond, reflection bench, and statue in the cool shade. After a busy day of sightseeing, shopping, or business in the city, take a cool drink out to the deck and feel yourself begin to rejuvenate.

Restful and calming, with casual seating and dining space for the whole group, the deck is likely to become your "anchor" at Oasis House, whether you're up at dawn doing tai chi to the sound of the morning birds, working on your laptop (you have free wireless Internet at Oasis House) in the soft sunshine, or sipping a glass of wine as you count the stars in the balmy night air.

Indoors, Oasis House manages to combine the charm of a mid-20th-century cottage with the convenience of up-to-the-minute appliances and technology. It's also much bigger than it looks from the front! There is a family room as well as a living room, which makes it very nice when part of your group really wants to cheer for their team during the big game and the other part wants quiet conversation!

The living room is all period charm and beauty, with polished hardwood floors, soft peach walls, 2 heavenly Mission-style easy chairs (believe us, you won't want to get up from these chairs!), gauzy drapes that filter the sunlight, and graceful lamps. This is the place to lose yourself in a novel, have an all-night conversation with an old friend, or simply sit and enjoy the serenity. Children tend to flop onto the Oriental rug with a bag of Legos or a handful of little cars and play for hours.

The family room, on the other hand, is made for raucous enjoyment, with a tiled floor that feels so good to hot feet that have walked all day, comfy furniture, a stereo, and a big new HDTV with DVD player. Many a lively game of charades has been played in this room, and it's the perfect place to let the kids drag all the blankets and pillows and stuffed animals for a "sleepover" in front of the big TV.

Our salmon-colored dining room is adjacent to the family room and convenient to the kitchen. It doesn't see many meals -- those usually get carried out to the deck! -- but it's a great place for board games, a work station, or organization center. Go ahead: spread out your maps and brochures and coupons and get your vacation really rolling!

The kitchen has been completely renovated, and you will love the gleaming new stainless-steel appliances, tiled floor and backsplash, wooden cabinetry, and fully stocked cookware cupboards and utensil drawers. Don't bring a thing except food -- everything else is here, just waiting to be of use! And of course we've got a microwave, coffeemaker, blender, and all the other useful time-savers that get you out of the kitchen a bit sooner.

The very best part of our house is the bedrooms. Nothing is more important than a good night's sleep, and everyone will be comfortable here. The master suite offers a 4-poster queen-sized bed in a room with long windows and a TV. The master bath is charming, with patterned tiles.

The second bedroom has a double-sized bed, and the third has a double-sized daybed. We have a second full bathroom, plus all the linens, blankets, pillows, and towels you will need at Oasis House. Our washer and dryer are at your disposal, so pack light!

I and my family love St. Augustine. We have stayed just about everywhere from the camp grounds to 5 star hotels. This was a lovely home in a very quite neighborhood. An easy walk to downtown in good weather. Lovely place and we would not hesitate tolook for it on future returns.

This is an older house but well maintained and nicely recently remodeled. Only major negative was being an older house it always seemed musty, muggy and out clothes and beds often felt "damp" or "cold". But overall a nice house and good location to downtown! The staff at vacation pros get major props for all the help and kindness they displayed to help myself and family out during stressful times waiting for house to close which is reason for our stay. They are great!!!

The furniture in the family room was extremely uncomfortable. The pond was not much more than some makeshift rocks with water pouring over them. The pump stopped working on the second or third day we were there and we also tried to vacuum but the vacuum cleaner didn't work. We called maintenance and someone stopped by for a short while and said he would be back to fix the pond and he left the vacuum by the front door it. We never heard from anyone again. A stagnant pool of water in Florida is a festering ground for mosquitoes. The house had cockroaches and was infested with fleas. Our dog was taken to a local vet office. The house had obviously had not been fumigated when the last tenants left and before we arrived. Our dog was agitated a scratched for the month we were there. The vacuum was eventually fixed by my husband, which took three hours or more. After a second call to the maintenance office two men came who fixed the pond and they also took it upon themselves to power wash the barbeque (it was too filthy to use otherwise). The two men who came were very effecient and they took notes about the flea infestation, etc.The location of the house is good for anyone who likes to walk as it is a short 15 minutes across the bridge to the old part of St. Augustine and within walking distance of the Conch House on Anastasia Island. St. Augustine is a beautiful city and very dog friendly which interested us as we were there for a month and wanted to take our dogs. As for re-renting this house, we wouldn't do it. Too uncomfortable and the garage is absolutely packed with all kinds of junk, etc. The pond is not really an attraction and the fenced in backyard turned out to be a 2' high brick wall.

Although the property was advertised to sleep six. It could only accommodate five.Unit was equipped with WiFi and reception was very good.Kitchen well equipped except for no sharp knives and was not equipped with a garbage disposal.Family room furnished with two rattan chairs and a 2-seater rattan couch. Very uncomfortable. Although the unit had three TVS when COMCAST went digital only one converter box was provided for TV in family room.No screen on door leading from family room to deck and, especially at night, we had a problem with flying insects.RECCOMENDATIONS: (1) Replace day bed with twin beds and install TV in third bedroom.(2) Provide sharp knives in the kitchen.(3) Install garbage disposal in kitchen sink.(4) Replace rattan furniture in family room with two recliners and a comfortable 3-seater couch.(5) Install screen door on door leading from family room to the deck or enclose deck completely.(6) Deck needs to be power washed, renailed, and painted.(7) Awning needs to be repaired.(8) Outside barbecue pit needs repair. (9) Consideration should be given to replacing the present TVs with 4 flat screen TVs (one per bedroom and 1 in family room).

When we first arrived it was very late at night. The first impression was nice. The house was furnished nicely, there was plenty of space for our family, and we were grateful to be able to bring our lab. However. The back yard is not fully fenced. Along the back is a brick fence all of 2 feet high and there is a large gap behind the fountain. When we went into the kitchen there were roaches. Live and dead. I had a roach crawl on me when I was sitting at the couch watching tv. And I saw roaches in the bathroom. The was at least one roach in the silverware drawer each time I opened it, sometimes several. And when I went in to the kitchen first thing in the morning and turned the light on to make coffee, roaches scampered across the counter, into the stove and coffee maker. Plus the longer we were there the worse our allergies were, including our dogs. I don't know what it was about the home, but I spent $150 in vet bills for her allergies because benedryl wasn't helping her. We were all taking allergy meds but ultimately drove a few hours to go stay at my parents because the meds weren't helping us either and both my children woke up with their eyes swollen shut. It might be that we are all coincidentally delicate beings and can't breathe normal air. But judging by whatever the brown goo was dripping from the electrical plates and light switches, the owners are aware of some issue. I wish they had taken it off the site and gotten it fixed before we wasted our time and money there. The house is lovely. The existing residents and health issues, not so much.
