Stayed for 2 days in July, 2011 This is a place where lots of people with dogs stay so if you are looking for a clean place, this may not be for you. Much to my suprise, the hot tub was clean. However if you do have a dog, this is a great location...a 20 min walk to the lake or some hiking trails. As I mentioned the staff was very friendly, helpful, and professional. Warning: be prepared for an additional $100-120 non-refundable fees that I am told are standard with all vacation rentals. So this cabin cost me almost $245 per night...and I know I could have stayed at a much nicer place for that amount. I hope you find this review helpful. Visitors expecting newer fixtures & furniture might be disappointed. The interior was fine (everything worked and was clean) but definitely aging...from the carpet to the bathroom to the furniture everything is showing its many years of service. If you are looking for a place to crash this is a good value. If you are looking to be pampered with good decor, newish fixtures/furniture, and a touch of luxury this is not a good choice. You get what you pay for A guest from Dallas, TX does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2011 We have rented many vacation homes. This one was the first big bummer. For starters, we did not gather from the online posting that it is a duplex. That was a surprise when we pulled up. The beer can, cigarette butts and bag of dog poop outside were a surprise too. While full of potential, the unit is quite dated and cluttered with abundant decorative items. The stove burner catch bowls were so crusted over that at least two of them smoked when you turned on the stove. The linoleum in the bathroom and base boards were in desperate need of a good scrubbing. The ice maker doesn't work. The clothes dryer is on its last leg. It's clear that this is a dog friendly property. The ashes in the wood-burning stove were piled up which made it hard to start a fire. In its defense, I will add, it was very inexpensive. But I suppose the money we spent staying out of it offset the savings. The location was also convenient and having an empty lot next door with nothing but trees and snow was enjoyable. Finally, the beds were comfortable and the black out curtains made for good sleeping in. The people at Accommodation Station were very friendly and helpful during the booking process, but we were unable to reach them our first full day in the property when it became apparent that a number of lightbulbs didn't work and no dish soap was left. We were also left with very old and ratty dish washing sponges and the dishwasher in this home is only half-sized, so it was difficult to clean up. In the end, the AS people did refund a portion of the cleaning fee, so that helped offset the sting of a disappointing stay. Ruby Cabin was easy to get to, and was the perfect location for Heavenly and activities in South Lake and beyond. Whilst Heavenly is a short drive away, we walked to the lake in 11 minutes. There are some decent restaurants within walking distance, and the hot tub will be awaiting your return! It's not flash but the location (on the edge of a pine forest, and close to the lake) will more than make up for it. Excellent service and advice from Accommodation Station also!We visited in August 2010 but would be a great winter location. The only problem was the road leading to the drive way. The road slopes sharply so after it snowed many cars, including our own, lost traction and slide down to the bottom even with snow chains on. Even though we arrived in Heavenly after office hours the key and directions were easily found. This meant our long journey from the UK didn't end in tears! The location was perfect, the cabin was cosy and suited our needs really well, and the hot tub was just what we needed after a good day on the slopes. The 7 feet of fresh snow that dumped on our 3rd day was also absolutely fantastic!I would definitely recommend Ruby Cabin to friends and would like to return in the future.
