Great Ski Condo
dtimm from Wisconsin,
Stayed for 0 days in March, 2011
My family of five (three teenagers) just got home from a week's stay in this condo. It was very nice. With 5 sets of ski clothing, the space was kind of tight, but with some organization and planning everything got dried out each night--ready for the next day. Very comfortable beds and furniture. Well equipped kitchen. Some staples were there. We left some more and replaced what we used of the stock. The washer/dryer worked out very well. All three kids slept in "real" beds--none in a sleeper sofa. The ski locker room helped out tremendously and was just down the hall. The first floor location of the condo was ideal. We never heard any noise from above. The walk to the lifts is not too far. We stayed at the "far end" of Keystone Village in Colorado one year and the walk was horrendous. Not the case in Solitude Village. It's just not that big of a village. It's not a ski in/ski out kind of place and walking back to the condo for lunch would be a pain, but it was close enough to make for a reasonable walk to the lift in the morning and back to the condo in the late afternoon. Didn't use the pool or the hot tub. The hot tub was right out the building side door. The pool was across the way outside another building--not too convenient. Solitude Village is small. The Guest Haus had very good pizza and meatball sandwiches. Not the best breakfast burritos, though. Thirsty Squirrel--to limited menu. We didn't even give it a go. Mountain dining was expensive (no surprise there and no complaint either), but it was very good. Got 2 ft of new snow one day while we were there and rented my sons powder skis for the day. It was well worth it, but get in the shop late afternoon the day before or you will be out of luck. They don't have a lot of the fatty skis compared to the other rental sets. Cons: Pretty basic electric stove. Like many electric stove tops, the burners are all uneven making it annoying to cook on them. The grocery store is basic, or less than basic. Our experience: eggs--yes, bread--yes, bacon--yes, orange juice--yes, milk--no, none, zip for three days. Paid $3 for a cup sized container of organic milk at the Guest Haus (not kidding) just to make Bisquick pancakes. Lastly, every afternoon when we came back to the building, the hallway smelled of backed up sewage. It never smelled in the condo, but it was not pleasant in the hallway--odd that it was everyday, but for only a short time. We'd stay here again, in a heart beat. Canyon Rentals was fantastic!

Solitude - the name fits
bdavisb from reston, virginia,

Myself, wife and son spent four days at this condo in March 2010. We are mid 40's and our son is grown. Our biggest desire, besides great skiing (which we had), was peace, quiet and a nice kitchen. From the moment we arrived and checked in at the 24hr concierge desk until we left we had a great experience. The condo building was right at the base of the mountain, our unit was large, nicely furnished, comfortable and very quite. Because the unit sits at the end of a hall and an emergency exit separates it from other units there is only one small wall that adjoins any other condo. So besides being very quite there's quick access to the outdoors. We we're on Apex lift each morning in under 10 minutes including our ski locker visit. The condo has an incredible master shower, a second full bath and the kitchen was well equipped. It lacks slope views on one side but was otherwise perfect. Each evening we took a soak in the hot tub to ease the days soreness from great skiing. This was my wife's first ski trip in the west. Her comment as we left Big Cottonwood Canyon was "when we ski again next year I want to come back here". Those words were music to my ears. I don't know a better compliment other than to say we plan to return to Solitude next year for a full week and we're hopeful we can book this same unit. The staff at Canyon Rentals made the trip planning simple and they we're responsive to my emails and phone calls. They always either called or replied via email within 24 hours. Good service and friendly.
