The beds are very comfortable. The shelves that the cups and dishes were on were very dusty. We washed the dishes before using them because the shelves were so dusty. There is really onlyparking for 2 cars with this cabin. The view was spectacular.Loved the stars at night. Had 2 scorpion spiders in our cabin. That was a little disturbing to all. Always allow yourselfextra time when leaving this cabin and going totown for a show or dinner. It will usually takeyou longer than you think. A bit far from civilization compared to other places we've stayed. Cabin could have been cleaner (not sure they washed the comforters/shams etc. which made me super uncomfortable) Driveways are super steep and practically rip your bumper off if not careful. Not very generous with supplies or kitchenware. Maintenance team was very attentive and helpful when we reported our shower head was missing. Our favorite part was sitting on the deck relaxing looking at the mountains and listening to the quietness. We also enjoyed sitting in the hot tub on the deck. The Kodiak is a very nice house except when it rained, lots of water had leaked from the windows, walls and door. We spent an hour soaking up and cleaning up the water with all of our towels in the house and placing bowls everywhere to catch the rainwater. I would recommend this house to a friend and hope it doesn't rain when they are there! The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had a bedroom that the outlets didn't work. A staff person came immediately to the house at 10:00 at night to help us find the circut breaker which was in an unusual location. We appreaciated his prompt attention. We would like to come back and rent again from Amerian Mountain Rental at this location and hope that they fix the leaking in the Kodiak for future guests. The sofa and love seat the springs are worn out and the beds were way too soft, all of our backs hurt from both of these as our stay went on. For what we paid per night, we were very disappointed in this. We loved the beautiful views, the size of the cabin except the kitchen, the stove and frigerator are way too close, you can hardly open the oven due to it scarping the frigerator. The dishwasher needs replacing, it did not clean dishes. We loved the porch and the rockers. The rail not coming all the way down on the porch raised a concern with our little ones. Also the stairs felt very unsafe, too much space between the steps for my comfort and for our granddaughter's safety. This gated community is so quiet and peaceful - the best we have stayed in thus far. The pool was awesome and all 5 of us enjoyed it. Our maintenance guy, Ben, was the best. We have stayed with other rental companies and the service was very slow when we would call with a concern. Not the case here! Within a short time Ben would show up at our door and was ALWAYS able to fix the problem with a cheerful, friendly attitude. If we had one concern, it was the cleanliness of the unit. The bathrooms had been cleaned and the linens were clean, but there was considerable dust on windowsills, behind the dressers, on the fireplace mantel and around the edges of the wood floors. The windowsill in the upstairs master bath had cob webs, dust, and the mini blinds were quite dirty. We have tried a number of different rental companies and different gated communities over the past 10 years. We always take extra good care of the properties. I cover the couches with our own sheets so that the kids don't get any suntan lotion, etc. on the furniture. We don't wear shoes in the house, etc. It was discouraging, though, that our feet/and or socks would be dirty after walking around this unit.Again, we would still recommend this company to friends (and, actually already have), but in all fairness, we mentioned the cleaning issue to them. It was serene, peaceful, beautiful, and a good deal. We were thrilled by the amenities - hot tub on the deck, jacuzzi tubs in the rooms. We loved the decor: a Kodiak bear/eagle/Alaska theme. The furniture was more than adequate to meet our needs. The one thing I would change is the bottom rails on the deck and stairs were not close enough together to the flooring; I felt like I had to keep a hand on my 2-year-old every time she went up or down the stairs or outside on the deck. Overall, I would be more than happy to stay in this area and this rental again. I was thrilled when we could add an additional night at a great price. I would have liked a bed for each person. Also, we produced a lot of garbage, phoned management for pick-up- this was not done! Kodiak is nice, but if not properly cared for it will be a dump in no time. Wood needs refinished, hot tub is bowing the deck, can not open oven door w/o opening the refrigerator door? Yep, that was a new one! The entire cabin needs a cleaning - top to bottom. There were places that hasn't been dusted in 3 years. The water was yellow to orange during our stay. Didn't want to do laundry! BUT, the family was together and that is really the important memory. Without hesitation, I would choose American Mountain Rentals and the Kodiak cabin the next time I visit the Smokies. The cabin had a spectacular view and was perfect for our family. If you want a wide vista of a mountain valley, a deck that can?t be seen from other cabins, and a perfect sunset in the Smokies, don?t hesitate to pick the Kodiak cabin. You will feel like you are almost the only cabin on the mountain. The staff at American Mountain Rentals were great and know how to treat customers. I found out that the cabin was available for one more night after my week and they gave me a fantastic discount to stay the extra night. The staff knows how to earn repeat customers. The Wear Valley is about 25 minutes from the National Park, a nice balance between close and away from it all. Stayed for 5 days in March, 2009 We were a little disappointed in some things about the cabin, the water was a big issue. On the second day our water ran brown. It was a little unnerving giving our two year old a bath in the tub. Every remote in the cabin had something wrong with it, the living room remote could not control the volume, and the remote in the bedroom on the main floor didn't work either. The bedroom on the main floor also had a problem with the door leading to the balcony. The plate on the door frame was broken and prevented the door from being able to be locked. We were not concerned with our safety however the last night of our stay during the storm the door blew open. Another minor issue of "nature" was the wasp problem we are aware the fluxuation in temperature could be to blame but we ended up killing four wasps, which was a little scary because we had small children with us and one allergic to wasps. we saw in the journal the tennants before us had a member of their party stung by a wasp. A very nice private cabin with an awesome view. It took a while to heat up as we went in January and they left the thermostat a Joe H. from Marrow, OH recommends this property. When they say you need four wheel drive in the winter, they are not kidding. We got caught with a sudden snow and it took a while to get back down the mountain. We've had a couple with better views & play areas but none that had the open spaces to accomidate large gatherings. I shopped several comparible cabins in the area & managed to save 25-30% in booking the Kodiak. The few times with left to go to PF it was nice to have the scenic drive down Waldons Creek RD. It could have used some updated kitchen skillets and baking sheets, but we managed. WHen we arrived, there were no mixing bowls, but the office personnel sent them up to us by way of the maintenance man. They were very helpful. We'd stay there again.
