Bear Naked Cabin Amanda M. from Clarksville, TN recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in December, 2012 I would recommend a brighter light outside to help see at night. The driveway is very steep, it was icy and the driveway had a big hole in it as well. There were bugs inside the cabin and I spent time every day sweeping them up. They looked like lady bugs. Also, the futon the kids slept on was broken. The location was beautiful , we all enjoyed the hot tub. We also were close to all the area attractions. Thank you. GREAT TRIP JUST A LITTLE MISREPRESENTED A guest from Covington, LA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in December, 2012 THE VIEW FROM THE HOT TUB IS A BRICK WALL. THE NEIGHBORS RIGHT NEXT DOOR HAD TWO DOGS WHICH BARKED ALL NIGHT LONG EVERY NIGHT. THE PHONE IN THE CABIN IS VERY CHEAP AND THE CONNECTION IS AWFUL AS THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE THIS WAS VERY IMPORTANT FOR EMERGENCY CONTACT. Great Summer Stay for Family of Six. WILLIAM F. from SAVANNAH, GEORGIA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2012 Our family of six consisted of Mom, Dad, Nanny, Three small girls ages 6-10. We stayed from 6/27 through 7/1/2012. The only time we interacted with the management was at check in, and they seemed to be courteous and helpful. The cabin was located within 5 miles from the parkway were all the entertainment is. The drive way to the cabin was a 40 foot 70 degree incline from the main street of the community. There was little room at the top to park with the resident neighbor's vehicle there, but he was kind enough to make sure we had room when we showed up. The cabin was pretty clean except for a little dusting needed. The kitchen window needs a blind. The rear porch had lots of spider webs, but it is a cabin in the mountains. The pullout couch probably needs upgrading as the springs are about to cut through the mattress. The futon upstairs is pretty wore out and the pool table was uneven with not enough room to play a serious game, but the kids really enjoyed it. The hot tub on the back porch gave plenty of room for Mom, Dad, and the girls to relax. Nanny really enjoyed the whirlpool bathtub. All the appliances were in great shape. It was very nice to have a washer and dryer in the cabin to use. Having cookware and dinner ware was fabulous. The view from the rocking chairs on the front porch was great, though if the owner would remove the small planted oak that is blocking 50% of the view it would be absolutely awesome. For a few dollars more than a hotel that accommodates six, we enjoyed the privacy and conveniences of home. There were plenty of amenities for use, we never needed to eat out so that saved us alot of money.Blinds in the kitchen window would also be nice.The parking was a challenge, not a problem for our truck, but could be an issue to many others and this was not disclosed in the booking process. It might be helpful to others to be aware of this when choosing a cabin.Overall the location was private and we could sit outside without feeling like neighbors could see or hear us. It was also within close driving to many attractions, resteraunts and stores.We would definately visit again!! I do have one suggestion, there was no light by the stairs. We got there at night and tripped and twisted ankles trying to carry luggage up uneven dark stairs. I would suggest putting in a light on the side of the cabin before some one gets hurts. We were not happy with the parking, and there was a huge hole in the driveway upon exit that was very hard to avoid. Also, it was dangerous to enter or leave the cabin in the dark. The railroad ties that comprised steps up to the cabin were very unstable and there was no railing or any way to light the path. If the solar lights had been active that might have helped a little. We actually left on Saturday evening rather than leaving on Sunday. I do realize that I had to amke the arrangements late and that might have been the only availability, as I saw much more desirable cabins in the compound. With just a few changes, this cabin could be super. For instance - the drieveway is waaayyy too steep and needs repair. I wish we would've known that there was another cabin right next to ours. Thank goodness it was not occupied while we were there, otherwise we would not have felt comfortable using the hot tub outside. The grill could be moved to the side yard. There needs to be a door or curtain or something to separate the bedroom or at least the bathtub from the living room. It's ok for a couple staying there, but with children there is no privacy. The loft is nice but there is not enough room around the pool table. And please repair the concrete around the pool. It is a safety hazard, causing people to trip and scrape their feet. We did see a bear in the back yard of the cabin next to the pool, which was exciting for the kids but he could have been going after the garbage that we saw scattered down the hillside. We would definitely choose a cabin from American Mountain Rentals again, just maybe not this particular cabin. It appears to have been started but never finished. There are really no other amenities other than the cabins. The cabins are well built but the surroundings were not impressive compared to others that I have stayed at. There was also a lot of trash on the grounds, which I picked up (soda cans, candy wrappers etc...obviously the prior renters had young kids)but the management/cleaning crew should have caught that. Pigeon Forge is nearby and has become Extremely commercialized and very honky tonk which is too bad. Although each to his own liking I guess. I know there are many other developments within the confines of the Smokey's which I was hoping to be part of but shame on me for not doing my homework better. However, the couch bed mattress was extremely worn out. It was basically just a set of box springs. The futon in the upstairs was also very worn out. There was thankfully only 3 people in our party. The first night our adult son tried to sleep on the couch bed but experienced a very unrestful night. He did howere go to our bed when we awoke and had a hour of sleep. The next two nights he had to carry the futon mattress down from upstairs to use as a little bit of padding on the couch springs. The driveway is straight up with a small area that is flat on the top for parking. Since two cabins share this drvieway, the other cabin is rented on a permanent basis and they have two cars so they were always parked on the flat spot which only left the striaght up area for our vehicle. This was scary. There is no privacy on the back porch with the hot tub. There is a thin see through blind that separated the two cabins. The furniture definitely needs updated as it is worn out and the skillets in the kitchen were worn out as well. One skillet was badly bent and usable. I would have preferred a more secluded cabin rather than be right beside another cabin and in a cabin community, but next time I will know to ask for this feature when selecting a cabin site. The rental company was very helpful upon an easy check in process, and the staff member was knowledgable and helpful in seeking discount tickets to Dollywood and provided suggestions with local area attractions. The cabin was clean and well maintained. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and the jacuzzi tub. The loft was also fun. Bear Naked is a true "log cabin" with a rustic and quaint feel. The front porch rockers overlooking the mountains were appreciated!! It was a very relaxing weekend and we will definitely consider using this rental company again when returning to Pigeon Forge. Although it appeared that housekeeping had done a basic cleaning, the front and back porches were very dirty, there were dead bugs in corners and under the couches, and cob webs along the ceiling and staircase. The mattresses on the sofa bed and futon need replacement! There were 3 wine bottles in the cabin but all were broken. I chose not to use most of the pans because they are so deteriorated. It seemed a little neglected but has great potential. Due to the need for a deep cleaning we were afraid to use the hot tub because we were not sure if it's being maintained. Also, the dumpsters next to the club house were overflowing with garbage and it smelled really bad! Otherwise, the property was very nice! It just needs a deep cleaning. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2009 Advertised as sleeping 6 but the pull out mattress in the living room is by far the most abominable bed I have ever seen. The coils were coming through and the entire bed sloped backwards. The futon in the loft was not much better - lumpy, sloping with a horrible bar straight down the middle. Some friends of ours traveled over an hour to join us in the cabin but turned around and went home once they saw the condition of the beds. The kitchen was very poorly stocked and unclean. Mouse droppings were found in the cabinets. There was not a single bowl for mixing or serving so we couldn't even make pancakes. There were 3 corkscrews but all of them were broken so we couldn't even open a bottle of wine. There wasn't even a cutting board. Fortunately we had our own but unfortunately we forgot it when we left the cabin. No facilities were provided for young children. We asked management if they could provide a high chair for our 14 month old but they were unable. The cable television did not work. We called about it but were told that they could not fix it due to construction work so we ended up missing Sunday's football games. On Monday morning we woke up at 8 AM to find ourselves SURROUNDED BY CONSTRUCTION! There were 3 pieces of equipment (2 Bobcat/Skid Steers & a small excavator) that were operating so close to our cabin you could reach out and touch them from the hot tub. I can't even believe how loud the noise was. I spoke with the workers and they said they had been working there for 2 weeks. When I approached management they claimed they knew nothing about it. However, one of the workers told me that the company had honeymooners staying at the cabin next to us and they ended up cutting their honeymoon short because of all the disturbance. So you decide who to believe.As for us we had to cut our trip short because the accommodations were so bad. However, the rental company only refunded our money for the night we did not stay. My main gripe was the complete lack of privacy. You don't see it in the pictures, but there is another cabin about 12 feet away. The hot tub on the back deck faces the other cabin's hot tub on their back deck. When you are upstairs playing pool, you are looking straight into the other cabin's upstairs pool room. (On a side note here, the pool table was so un-level, playing a real game was a farce. We had to fold up a towel and put it under the legs to try and level it out a little.) On the other hand, the fireplace was nice, the rental people were helpful, and we did see lots of wildlife. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2009 American Mountain Rentals clerks/phone operators are friendly and helpful on the phone and in person when checking in. The cabin itself is easy to find and in a quiet, out of the way area, but still close enough to Pigeon Forge to be convenient. The resort neighborhood is downright charming, but on a very steep hill. The overall feel of the cabin is nice and comfortable. However, we are very picky about cleanliness and I do think the cabin should have been cleaner. For example, the floors should have been swept better and the whole place needed a dusting in a bad way. The windows and shades were very dirty. The couch and rocker/recliner(both are VERY worn out) had cookie crumbs all over them. Not a few crumbs either. Imagine someone taking a cookie and crumbling it over the couch and chair. The porches had not been swept in a very long time. I spent a few hours the first night just dusting and sweeping because we have 2 small children that are close to the floor. After I did my "once over" we felt right at home. The linens on the bed were crisp and clean. The bed was comfy. The jacuzzi and bathroom were both clean too. Also, the hot tub was yuck-free.
