Consider before you book Katja N. from Honolulu, HI does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in April, 2013 My parents and I stayed at the Alii Kai 1101 in Princeville when we visited Kauai. Princeville itself is a nice area with Hanalei Beach just 2 miles away. But be warned, the pictures give you the impression that this particular vacation rental is directly on the beach but you could only see a little bit of the ocean from the living room window. There is also no beach access from up there (located on the hill/mountain). The furniture in the apartment was quite dated hence made it feel old and not well kept up. For $120 cleaning fee I would have expected something worth $120, not so. If the price of a vacation rental is your primary decision maker then this may be the place for you, but if you can spend $50 or so, more dollars, then I recommend looking for something a bit more updated better kept up and direct ocean view/lanai. More of a bachelor pad A guest from Mancos, CO does not recommend this property. Stayed for 21 days in December, 2012 Roomy, good comfortable bed and living room furniture. Had multiple difficulties with getting check-in instructions as the managing company is in Texas and not on the island, had to fax contract multiple times before they said they had it. If you are going out to eat most of the time, it will work well. We do a lot of cooking and the kitchen is poorly stocked, with the exception of lots of pots and pans. There are some cosmetic issues, such as the headboard in the master bedroom is propped against the wall and continuously bumps the wall if you don't pull the mattress back and the dust ruffle is too large and lays all over the floor. There is some basic maintenance that needs to be done, such as the closet metal door track is completely rusted and the grout in both baths needs to be re-done due to mold staining. Princeville is a bit far from everything except the northern part of Kawai. No drapes in the 1st floor master BR. If someone was walking in the common area out back, they got a heck of a free peep show the first night. After we figured out you could clearly see through the frosted glass, it was mandatory lights out. We prefer to make love with the lights on, not total darkness. Ali'i Kai 1101 Hilary A. from Squamish, BC does not recommend this property. Stayed for 9 days in April, 2012 Very happy with performance of Ahh Aloha but the unit needs some TLC. What has been done looks great (lam floor, furniture look like new)but here is a list of things that need to be upgraded/replaced/repaired: 1 - mattress pad in smaller bedroom is stained, also one of the pillows and the linen was pretty worn out. Not sure about the mstr brm. 2 - many of the louvred windows will not close, when windy this is a nuisance. 3 - the sound system will not turn off, probably should be replaced with a more modern and smaller one, found it unplugged and left it that way. 4 - the kitchen counter and kitchen cabs are really tired - a reface and new laminate counters would give the place a real lift. 5 - there is no "welcome to the unit" binder with general information about the suite. 6 - the ahh aloha kauai office did not have the correct cleaner on file nor was it posted in the suite. 7 - all the towels need a review and some replacements need to be made, suggest avoid WHITE. 8 - it would be nice to have a proper dishcloth in the unit. 9 - some of the windows were so salt-stained you could hardly see out of them.We appreciated that there was salt/pepper, tea/coffee, dish/laundry soap and garb bags provided. Thanks! We also appreciated very prompt and successful repair of 2 lights that were broken. Thanks again! Overall liked the place but it needs a little investment. I have been on the other side (rental property manager) and would be embarrassed by the condition of the bed/bath linens and broken windows in particular if I was the owner. It's in Kauai, people are great, the condo complex is nice, so many fun things to do. The only problem is that Ali'i Kai 1-011 is in need of renovation. There have been some upgrades done, but more are needed. ( New curtains and drapes, new window casings, new closet door ralings are some of the things that need to be redone. Plus, housekeeping could do a better job of getting the place ready - like wash the windows and clean the bugs off the screens). I would rate the condo itself as so-so at the best. Also, it would be helpful if the directions included building number rather than just directions to the resort. We had to call, as the office was closed at that point in the afternoon.The unit was unclean when we arrived - dirty, crusty kitchen table, moldy shower - and there were a few maintenance problems. Additionally, there were bare bones equipment items (only three coffee mugs, no matching wine glasses, a cheese grater that only grates teeny slivers, no serving utensils, etc. It was hard to entertain while we were there). However, when we called about the maitenance problems, someone came to fix them the same day and left a note with a contact number if more problems came up (which they did not). The people we talked with were all very nice and who can be upset when staying in Kauai? But we will not book at this location again. Saying we had an ocean view was a HUGE stretch. The condition of the unit was old and not well maintained. For the money we paid A guest from McKenna, Washington does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2010 We spent over 3 weeks on Kauai and paid the same amount in all rental accommodation and this property was overpriced by at least $300 for the week in comparision to the others. The poool and area was great and well maintained. The condo.. the beds, the pillows - we were astonished at how stained they were. The cookware was far below standard. The stove was old and the elements couldn't be put in properly, the fridge icemaker didn't work. The internet was great and appreciated. Very spacious, quiet, friendly residents, and could watch the sun rise and set from there. The home was very clean and in great shape, loved that there were 4 boogie boards and extra towels and beach gear in the closet. Management staff was great!My only suggestions would be that the blowup bed has a slow leak somewhere and will not stay blown up for more than half the night. Couldn't connect to the WiFi, and internet was slow, and all remotes need some new batteries. other than that everything was great, we would rent that unit out next time. The dishes in the kitchen were in bad condition and smelt horrible, even basic thigs like salt and pepper were missing - the cupboards were empty except for cleaners. The sink had a horrible smell of dead or decaying fish whenever the water ran and took a couple of days to clear up. No amenities at al suc as barbeque or chairs that you can take out. I've been in many rentals but this is probably the worst so far in terms of little things that were missing and bad condition.
