The beaches are absolutely beautiful and the weather was mostly sunny during the day and very cool at night. The property is well-kept and the reservation process was very professional. The view from the lanai is also beautiful, however we were disappointed we couldn't see more of the sunset from the rental. We did see some gorgeous sunsets from the beach though! We got super lucky with winter weather while we were there and barely saw a drop of rain! Enjoyed sitting out on the lanai for breakfast and cocktails--watching the whales and listening to the ocean! We hiked the Kalalau Trail to the waterfall, had dinners at Mediterranean Gourmet and Bar Acuda, and enjoyed the pool and the running path/park in Princeville. Stayed for 10 days in December, 2012 The unit has 3 sets of stairs which didn't bother me after the initial push to get the luggage up but I wouldn't recommend it for anyone with strength or mobility issues.There are some maintenance quality issues i.e. the toaster doesn't work, the screen door to the patio comes off the track consistently and the mattress is shot. The main annoyance though was no WIFI in the unit. To have an internet connection that would work you'd have to bring at least 10' of Ethernet cable and a laptop with an Ethernet port. tall order for a vacation. Most folks use wireless tablets these days and no internet connectivity is pretty primitive. The view was beautiful, but the place was small with outdated furnishings. The pool area was very blah, not a single table with shade provided. All the condos have faded shingle siding which are included in your ocean view. My sister stayed in D8 which has been updated and you can tell the owner takes pride in it's appearance. I was glad that I didn't go for the same place. The view is breathtaking!! The beautiful sounds of the waves is heard the entire time of our stay in the unit. There is no need for an air conditioning since the trade wind from the sea keeps the place cool. We enjoyed having breakfast on the lanai (balcony)and we would occasionaly see whales splashing out of the sea. The only thing that we thought needed improvement were all the kitchen knives which were dull. The place was well equiped with beach chairs, hiking stick, body board, cooler for beach picnic,...etc). The difficult part of the stay is leaving. We are definitely coming back soon ! Although we needed to climb the stairs everytime we go to the unit, however it gave us the privacy compared to units below as our unit was on the top floor. Stayed for 8 days in January, 2012 we loved the view from the condo! watched whales and pod of dolphins while eating our meals on the lanai. enjoyed the extra bed in the living room for naps overlooking the ocean. kitchen had everything we needed and we appreciated the washer/dryer. once we figured how to connect the computer, we had internet access but would have liked to have WIFI in the room. also, we neglected to ask about an elevator?not a problem yet for us, we can still manage the stairs easily, but being on the 4th floor could be an issue for someone who is more 'needy'. the other disappointment for us was the BBQ?based on prior experience, we expected a working gas bbq with utensils at hand?.again, not a huge issue, but definitely something we would have welcomed. please understand we had a fabulous time in the condo?these are just the reasons we didn't give it 5 stars. thank you for a wonderful stay! It was beautiful, the view was amazing from the balcony and front porch. Being the only unit on the very top made it feel like a tree house. Everything went well except one morning someone opened the door to the unit which is only opened by code. It was the property manager apparently who needed to look at a leak. We let him look but were a bit uncomfortable as he entered the unit without knocking, shut the door when he saw people in it, and I opened it to find out what was going on. My girlfriend could have been dressing, as it is a studio, and that made me very uncomfortable that he didn't knock. Other than that, great stay. Window screens not fitting or punctured, therefore geikos coming in at night. Water damage stains at the bottom of wall below window in bedroom. Rotten wood beside entrance door inside. However, the general condition of the room was very average, several things in the condo didn't work well and needed attention, the TV did not work properly, the sink was stopped up and needed repair, and a sliding door between the bedroom and the main living area did not close sufficiently to separate the bedroom from the main living area. In addition the carpet in the main room looked like it needed to be cleaned or had permanent stains on it. However, my wife and I enjoyable our stay in this condo and would consider renting a Sea Lodge Condo in the future. The top floor was nice because of the awesome views BUT would have been more comfortable with an AC unit. Was very hot in there even with the fans. We cleaned the fans because they were disgusting (full of dirt and dust). Somewhat of an unpleasant odor throughout condo (like an air freshener) My food and water bottle even smelled like it. Hairs in shower as well. Great Sea Lodge Beach and would come back again but probably try somewhere other than Sea lodge or maybe a more updated unit that had an ac unit. Property Manager Response: Response from Ahh Aloha Kauai Vacation Rentals It was very hot during part of September, and unfortunately if the tradewinds are not blowing, it can be uncomfortable regardless of where you are. When the tradewinds blow, which is nearly all of the time, then the condo will get nice cross ventilation and the temp will stay in the comfort zone. We can't control the weather, but we certainly can insure that the cleaning is brought up to par, and will make sure our cleaning inspector is aware of the issues guest had with cleanliness to make sure the condo is perfect for our next guests. One of the best places to rent because of how well it was equipped. I love to cook and found everything you would want or need! A to Z, things you didn't expect to find like a juicer, potato peeler, rotary egg beater, all kinds of knives, wire cheese cutter, cork screw, measuring cups and spoons, a new coffee maker and a stack of brown paper filters, plastic storage containers, drain board, cutting board etc etc, an iron and ironing board, an Ethernet cable for high speed internet, a combination lock built into our front door, a vacuum cleaner, detergent for the stack washer and dryer which my wife called the largest capacity for a stack she had ever seen, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, Windex, many extra light bulbs, batteries, ball point pens, a medium size picnic chest, a dandy high tech walking stick with built in compass, a bit of snorkel equipment, great folding chairs and a beach umbrella, hair dryer, a dishwasher and garbage disposal, a nice entertainment center with a stereo, record player, VHS and DVD and audio tape player, a flat screen TV about 35 inches, over 70 DVD's and 40 VHS tapes and 4 or 5 dozen paperback books including local guides. These are all beyond what you would expect to find in a rental condo, I can't recall it all nor have the room here to write it! We spent 32 glorious days in this, our temporary home, in a combination of comfort and luxury! A fabulous supermarket (Foodland), shops and restaurants were exactly a four minute drive as was the golf course, HA! Add all this to the fabulous lanai and it's ocean and mountain and lighthouse views, a ceiling fan, a floor fan and a table top fan which weren't needed due to the great trade winds, on the 3rd and very private floor. Stayed for 21 days in July, 2010 I always stay in this unit and for one primary reason: the views of both ocean and Bali Hai mountains and evening sunsets. The bed in this unit is the softest, most sloping, most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept in. This time I turned the mattress over the mattress and slept on the wrong side just to not end up with a horrible backache. While this seems minor, the bed is also faced in such a way that there is no nightstand on one side of the bed, or a lamp, making it impossible to read in bed at night. I am cautious about recommending this to a friend due to the exterior condition of the complex A guest from Springfield, MO recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in April, 2010 The grounds were beautifully landscaped and maintained; the apt itself was adequate and the bed comfortable. I was very concerned about the lock, since the combination is not changed from guest to guest. The bed was comfortable and the view is, of course, amazing.
