This cute and cozy remodeled condo sleeps 4, offers a pool, beach access and wireless internet. This unit is a half a block to the complexes private beach walk.

This is a second story efficiency condo at Island Retreat. It has a queen size bed and a full size sleeper sofa. There is a full kitchen complete with everything you would need to cook your catch of the day. The complex has a wonderful pool and there is beach access. This unit is pet friendly for guests with small dogs.

The room was clean and had all basic ammenities, but it was very small. It was ok with us since we were there for the beach and island itself not the room. However if you intend on spending a lot of time in the room and require space you may want to look around. With that being said it was close to the beach and the property was great. There is no view, but that's ok, as we were out and about most of the time. The walk to the beach is short (10-15 min), although, lugging two kids, a wagon, and all the stuff was a little rough....there are 3 or 4 steps you have to go up on the boardwalk. The sand was pretty well packed, so the wagon rolled just fine. The place was very clean. Nice pool, lots of picnic tables and BBQ pits. Note: IR16 is rented by"Port Aransas Escapes", whose office is NOT located at "Island Retreat". We were a little confused when we arrived as to where to pick up our key. Stayed for 2 days in April, 2012 A/C was broken when we arrived, it was 86* in our room, they didn't fix it until about 8:30pm. The room looked like we walked into 1975, old furniture, and appliances, asbestos ceiling and floor tiles. For the price, this place was a ripoff! I was told they had a military discount, did not receive it, was told at check out they would reimburse me the money and the owner would call and talk to me since I wasn't pleased - still hasn't happened! Not to mention they charge you an automatic cleaning fee then make you clean everything before you leave including removing all trash or you'll be charged another cleaning fee. Other than the location to the beach and bars, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! Waste of money, you'll be happier with the Days Inn down the road! It took us several attempts to get a property rented from the management company. They were very flexible, yet super unorganized. It would have been nice to have a set of instructions and phone numbers upon arrival so that we would have known what to do in case of emergency and what to do to check out.Our rental unit had many of the amenities that we needed, but we were missing one basic essential, a spatula (we had to borrow one for the week). We could have used a set of salt and pepper shakers, and a flashlight (the power went out) as well. I think they had shampooed the carpets recently or something because the smell eventually went away, as it dried maybe? My 2 year old found cheeto balls in the sofa bed. Beds were uncomfortable. There is an oven but no sheet or dish to bake anything in. We had planned on making pig-in-a-blankets one morning. Had to improvise. The lights in the kitchen came on after about 15 minutes after flipping the switch, so I cooked breakfast by the light coming in the window. The dishes in the pantry weren't clean. TV was blurry, so winding the kids down at the end of the day could have been better. Went to pop a dvd in, discovered it wasn't even hooked up, so my husband moved the entertainment center to get it all plugged in, and then discovered there weren't even outlets in the tv to plug the cables in. The walk to the beach wasn't too far, but needed to be cleaned out...kind of like a tunnel that was partially buried in sand. Overall, the redeeming quality about this property was its location. We probably would have checked out after seeing everything, but I didn't want to waste even more time trying to find somewhere else to relocate to, having been unfamiliar with the area. The condo was very nice and actually larger than I expected. Both the room and property were nice and clean. The pools were also nice. Only downside was that the boardwalk to the beach was a pretty good walk from the room so we chose to drive onto the beach instead of lugging all of our stuff and a small child on foot. She seemed to be near retirement age or at least past sixty years old. We had been driving all day and it was very hot in the late afternoon when we arrived. Brenda seemed to be on break when we arrived, she was in the lobby there talking on her cell phone. Whom ever she was talking to must have been very important because she had no manners about greeting us or asking if we needed water or coffee...there was no Big Southern greeting, "can I get you anything---glad you all could make nothing like that; she was very asertive and to the point when I tried to ask her a question---three times she had to point me in the direction of the lady behind the desk...she clearly did not want to be bothered with us. Well, the lady be hind the desk was just as charming as Brenda...just take these keys--- here ---thank you... good bye!But she was polite and seemed nicer that you know who.I woke up with bug bits all over me mosly on my buttox and stomack. We looked for fleas---there were no fleas to be found anywhere the whole four nights that we had stayed there. I am sorry to report that the bits can only be bed bugs and form what I have read..good luck getting rid of them--- they are very hard to get rid of. I have washed everything we took in clorox and treated the luggage with pest stuff and have left them outside, until I am sure the bugs are dead. The nice lady that lives and takes care of the property there gets a five star as she was always helpful to us, even tho it was not her job to be.
