Not quite what we expected
A guest from Brooklyn Heights, Ohio does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in October, 2017
The location was excellent. Did not like that we could not open windows due to all the air conditioners. Too many dead flies on windowsills upon arrival...sorry, but it was a turnoff. Also did not receive directions, code access to cabin until day of departure.

Cute Cabin, Better If You Rent Both Properties
A guest from Bethel Park, PA recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in August, 2017
This was a very nice rustic cabin. Perfect for us as a couple and our dog. Everything was very clean and in good shape. Great location, very close to Ohiopyle and Cucumber Falls hiking trails. There's also a Dollar General a couple of miles up the road that was great to grab a few items here and there. The kitchen was functional, but low on counter space. It was also missing a cutting board (other than the butcher's block table) and a complete set of measuring cups/spoons. The house is very close (approx. 10 yards) to the other rental cabin on the lot, and both are very close to the relatively busy road. The road didn't bother us too much, but it did bother us that this cabin shares a Wifi router with the neighboring cabin (and the router is located in the other cabin). Overall, we enjoyed our stay here, but we would probably choose a different OVR location unless we had a larger group and planned to rent both cabins on the property.

Great Rustic Cabin
Chris M. from Pittsburgh, PA recommends this property.
Stayed for 2 days in May, 2017
This was a wonderful, warm little cabin right up the road from downtown Ohiopyle. Big level mowed lawn that the dogs loved running through. Everything was great. The weekend me and my wife stayed there was, unfortunately, fairly rainy. But the cabin kept us dry and the WiFi gave kept us busy when we were chased indoors during the more intense showers. The only negative is the cabin is right next to the road. Set back maybe 100 feet. So it was super easy to spot on the drive in...but I had to keep an eye on our dogs because people tend to speed a lot.

Our Stay at the Orndorff Cabin
Brenda W. from Trout Run, PA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in September, 2016
Just Okay. By the picture, you would not guess there is a house right next door. That was disappointing. From the pictures and description, I was thought there was nice wooden rockers on the porch. There were none. The house itself was nice enough, but there was mouse droppings, which can happen.. Saturday Morning when everyone started taking showers, the shower started leaking and dripping into the first floor. I called the rental company right away. The lady I spoke with was nice and said she would report it. We had to put pots and our coolers under the drip. It was quite bad. After not hearing anything back from the rental company, I want online and filled out the online message. I wanted to make sure they were aware of the problem. The rental company never contacted me about the problem, not even to say they were sorry for our inconvenience. The area beautiful. The house...just ok.

David S. from Brooklyn, NY recommends this property.

My boyfriend and I had three perfectly peaceful nights and two beautiful days in the Orndorff Cabin. We liked being there so much that we really didn't leave, instead choosing to bask in the serenity of the space. The internet was spotty, which can certainly be a blessing, but be aware of that if you need to work during your retreat.

Ohiopyle perfection
A guest from Hudson, ohio recommends this property.
Stayed for 2 days in July, 2016
Great place, clean, odor-less, all amenities were in great condition. AC blasted cool air, this was perfect. The shower was clean and had plenty of hat water. The grill was magnificent. Only negatives were parking. We had to park so close to the cabin, we were on top of our vehicles. Additional parking should be established on the other side of the driveway.

Stayed for 2 days in June, 2016
The location and cleanliness of the cabin was great! The only complaint I have is that the electric stove wouldn't work and all the light bulbs on the porches were burnt out. It's not a big deal but when you're at one of the more expensive cabins in Ohiopyle you expect everything to be perfect. You're supposed to get what you pay for....

Suboptimal stay
Carolyn L. from Lakewood, OH does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 2 days in May, 2016
We brought food to cook in during most of our visit. The toaster didn't work. We originally thought the oven didn't work, until we realized on day two that the breaker wasn't on. We couldn't get the heat to turn on in the bedrooms. We called the office twice and were told we would receive a call back. We never received a call back.

Expensive disappointment!
Raffy D. from St Catharines, Ontario does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in October, 2015
Started out badly - ended up worse!1. Trying to book the cabin 2 months prior to intended arrival - Nobody answered the phone in 6 attempts I made. A recorded message promised a return call. I left messages 3 times, but nobody ever called. Ended up booking the place up via a third party.2. The exorbitant US$1000 rental fee (just 3 nights) was charged to my credit card ~2 months and one month ahead of arrival.3. The OVR management conveniently makes all renters sign a contract precluding any refund, no matter how justified.4. On the OVR website, the cabin is depicted as isolated cabin, while in reality it is only 5. The cabin's user info was promised to be sent a week prior to arrival. Only following a reminder email 5 days prior to arrival that the lockbox code and Wi-Fi password were sent.6. We received no directions and indeed ended up spending nearly an hour around 11pm looking for the place (a Park ranger finally helped us find it).7. Upon arrival, after 11:00pm, we found the cabin infested with live, dead, or dying wasps/hornets, which we had to clean up before we could go to bed. The next day there were more of them and again the next day and the last morning. During our last night, both I and my 65 year-old sister were stung by some bug or another while in bed!8. I tried to call the management (they use a messaging service with an actual human being at the other end of the phone line!). I left a message re the infestation, asking to be contacted promptly. As was earlier the case - nobody ever did!9. Upon returning home I emailed the management to complain and ask for partial refund. I was flatly refused claiming their policy (to which I 'agreed' in the contract) 'prevents' them from issuing any refunds..!Worst ever rental experience!

Ben C. from Charleston, WV recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in September, 2015
There was a bit of a mix-up with booking. Originally, they let me book the cabin for 2 nights on Labor Day weekend. Months into my booking, they called and said I had to book for 3 nights or lose reservation. This was unfortunate, as most in our group were unable to stay that 3rd night. However, we did get a substantial reduction in price for that 3rd night, which softened the blow. The cabin was rented along with the Schaeffer right next door. Perfect accommodations for out bachelor party! Located roadside and very convenient to all the attractions in Ohiopyle! Nice spot.

The rental was exactly as pictured and we couldn't have been more pleased. A feeling of "away from everything" but only 5 minutes away from the heart of Ohiopyle ! A guest from philadelphia, PA recommends this property.
Stayed for 2 days in July, 2015
The cabin was just as beautiful as we were expecting. The property was lovely and so relaxing BUT the wifi never worked which made it hard to get in touch with our families at home as we had very little cell service in the area. We were relying on being able to email. Also, there seemed to be bats, i think, living in the wall of the first bedroom. I hardly noticed during the day but it was VERY apparent at night (scratching, high pitched chirps, lots of fluttering). Every once in a while it was so loud that I was concerned they were going to get inside the room. Our second night I just turned the air conditioner on high hoping to drown it out which worked fairly well most of the night. All of that said, I would still return. It really is a beautiful property and a wonderful atmosphere.

4th of July family get-away to Orndorff Cabin
A guest from New Salem, PA recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in July, 2015
The cabin is rustic, yet has the comforts of home. Kitchen nicely equipped and 2 bedrooms comfortable. Pull-out couch mattress not so great - the 2 who slept on it the 1st night opted to go home early and drive in the next day to get a good night's sleep. Floorboard wood had some nail heads exposed and some roughness - we had a crawling baby; appreciate the authentic look, though. Would recommend handrails on both sides for the steps to the 2nd floor. 2 porch areas - wonderful for relaxing + grill and fit pit great! Plenty of parking and very close to Ohiopyle.

Cozy weekend getaway
A guest from NEW YORK, NY recommends this property.
Stayed for 4 days in October, 2014
Though the cabin was very charming, it was very close to the road and another house. Neither issue was a deal breaker, by any means. Although many reviews mentioned mice, we saw none. There were a lot of ladybugs and a few wasps each day, but the cabin was very clean when we arrived. The sofa was almost unbearably uncomfortable. The Wi-Fi never worked, although I never called about this issue, as I personally did not care. The management company did not file my returned rental agreement, so I had to call for access while traveling to the cabin. They eventually realized it was on there desk (for six weeks) and gave me the code for access. The cabin was larger than expected, and convenient to state parks, Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. Over all I would stay there again, and recommend it to anyone willing to rough it in the country.

Chad B. from Castle Hayne, NC recommends this property.
Stayed for 3 days in October, 2014
All in all the cabin was a pleasure. Make sure you are comfortable with other houseguests because there is just one bathroom, upstairs, and the bedrooms are next to one another have open ceilings so you will hear EVERYTHING! It is located on a road that heavy trucks roll by at all hours, which was not evident by the pictures. My only real complaint was that the wifi never worked, which hindered other travel plans as we could not access the Internet(as expected as per the description)and the cell service is virtually nil there. Additionally, calls to the main office regarding this issue went unreturned...even as of now, one week later as I fill out this questionnaire! Despite the lack of wifi though, the cabin was very nice.

Really cute cabin. Needs to have some hooks or places to hang wet towels and places to put suitcases. No where to store them or place them. A guest from Gatesmill, OH recommends this property.

Stayed here with my teenage daughter and a friend to do some some rafting on the Yough. Great location. You won't find a more charming place. Be aware that there is another cabin just yards away, although when we were there the guests at the other cabin were very quiet and hardly noticeable. Downside was that the sofa bed in the living room was thin, full of springs, and impossible to sleep on. I had to put the sofa cushions on the floor and sleep on them (not cool). The walls between the 2 bedrooms upstairs don't go all the way to the ceiling so there is NO privacy. Also, you have to bring your own toilet paper and literally everything you might need in the house, including salt and pepper, dish soap, paper towels, etc. We couldn't get the Franklin stove to work, so if you're there in winter it might be chilly. It's still a very cute cabin. Would work for a couple and maybe one or two small children.

Stayed for 3 days in July, 2014
Orndorff Cabin met our needs and expectations, although it's light on comforts. It was located on the boarder of the park and just a few miles from Fallingwaters, so it was convenient for the activities we'd planned. The cabin itself is authentic log with very basic amenities, steep stairs and limited, aged furnishings. The Internet connection was dodgy and the mice daring. That said, it's a lovely location (note it's closer to the road than the pictures imply), and met our needs for the three nights we were there. I wouldn't want to stay longer. Do plan to bring your own vegetables and food supplies as there are no grocery stores nearby.

Glad My Wife Didn't Come To See The Bat
Richard B. from Sandusky, OH does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 2 days in June, 2014
I had read the reviews prior to my stay, with many comments about mice and no curtains. The reviews were from 2 years ago and I was disappointed to see the same problems existed with no changes. Also had a bat flying around the 2nd night and it left it's droppings on a bed and hallway. There sounded to be a dozen or more in the walls. It made for a bad night, but the bat went back into the wall and we plugged the hole shut. A professional exterminator needs to be called in on a regular basis. I know, because I 'm a state license nuisance trapper in Ohio. The manager Jordan did call me and made an offer to stay at another site, if I returned, which sounded good.

Roland M. from Pittsburgh, PA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in June, 2014
upon check in, my children were welcomed my squeaking sound of a suffering mouse caught in a sticky trap while lying next to another dead mouse! We had to take out of the house ourselves and end its suffering. that was just annoying!!! Next, the bathroom started leaking to first floor living room every time somebody took a shower. We had to lay pans out to catch the constant drips. maintenance came Monday (day after our check in) and put sealant. Of coursed then we couldnt use the bathroom for the next 4 hrs! AFter which it still leaked! The sofa was smelly and all drawers in the bedroom were dusty, we had all our clean clothes on top of the dressers! It would have been a very nice place if only the staff cleaned more than just changing sheets, since you make us clean before checking out! Also, the grill has a gaping hole inside due to rust and you can only use half of the grill. the top rack of the grill kept falling on our food, needs to be replaced. The outdoor chairs are all covered in rust, I was so afraid to let my children touch it and get a cut from all the rust! The space inside and outside of the cabin was wonderful for families with pets.

This place was satisfactory. I am a very easy to please sort of person. I was able to cook and we were able to mostly sleep, but not as well as I would have liked, I'm a mom of 4 and this was my first trip away from all the children, I was greatly looking forward to a full nights sleep. However, this home is truly the residence of a family of mice. We saw a mouse run out from under the over one night and all night long we heard them in the wall. The other detail that ought to be considered by visiting guests is that the window in the bathroom is open to the very close neighbors (without curtains). I recommend bringing sheets or some sort of window coverings to hang up if you care about privacy.

This cabin did not disappoint! Everything was there to make you feel at home. If you plan on using the oven, the kitchen is not stocked with any baking dishes so just plan accordingly! Also, the cabin is much closer to the road than we anticipated. Quite a few logging trucks went passed in the middle of the night. It would not keep me from returning or recommending to a friend though. It was a breeze to work with OVR and enjoyed the area greatly.

Stayed for 3 days in October, 2013
We were happy when we arrived to find the place very clean and functional. However, the master bed was broken (I fixed it and was glad I brought my tools). I have to wonder if they leave the bed like we found it on purpose to try collect the damage deposit. There is a WIFI signal and login details but there is no internet service. There were a few minor details we reported over the 1-800# to an answering machine upon arrival - but there was no return call or visit from staff. No service. The place is not bug proof and there was an invasion of lady bugs, mud wasps and stink bugs coming through the A/C window unit louvres. This was due to the sunny days. Did not bother us much as we are Canadian kayakers and made of pretty tough stuff.Other reviews reported the traffic noise to be loud and it is loud all day and night as the cabin is right next to the road. 4 Stars for proximity to Ohiopyle. No stars for proximity to the road.

After staying overnight we found mice droppings on the countertop and dish drying rack (where our dishes had been drying from the previous evening.) Our son became ill that morning. The cabin is very convenient to hiking/biking trails and town but is located directly beside a road, so the view/privacy/traffic noise is not desirable.

We wanted a comfortable, quiet place in Ohiopyle to shower and sleep after being outside all day. No need for a kitchen or TV, or luxurious amenities. This exceeded our expectations. It was even nice for me to work on my laptop in the living room. We had excellent 4G reception with our Verizon hotspot that we brought with us. You share a wall with guests in the other half, but we had no issues. It is nice that it is away from the busy road by a few blocks as well.

I recently stayed at Orndorff Cabin with a group of friends for a girl's weekend getaway. We were all very pleased with the cabin. It is beautiful and VERY clean! It also came with everything that we could have needed (towels, kitchen supplies, etc) While there we spent time at Ohiopyle State Park, Laurel Caverns, and the Christian Klay winery. All were very close. The only downfall about the location is how close it is to the main road and how close it is to the other cabin. It would be great if you were renting both cabins during your stay though. Overall, a wonderful cabin and we would definitely return!

The cottage was beautiful. Location good. But, this is in no way a cottage that sleeps 6. Until you sleep on the extremely uncomforatble sofa bed you can not say this place sleeps six. I would recommend getting rid of the sofa bed and replace it with a more comforatble sofa and then place a queen size mattress in the nook under the steps. The bedroom with a full size bed should also have a queen. Two six foot tall people can not comfortably sleep in a full size bed. I would also have someone check the shower stall. The floor under is spongy and the controls were installed upside down.

We loved the cabin and its unique and authentic antique furnishings. The cabin was just a "WOW" when we walked in the door and was very fun to explore. The location was very close to Ohiopyle which was a plus. The only surprises were that there is another cabin sitting very close to the one we rented and you can't see that in the pics on the website. Also, the cabin sits pretty close to the road where in the website pics it looks like it sits back further. Neither of these "surprises" caused any problems for us, but if you are looking for privacy in a remote cabin this one is not for you. There were a few little mouse droppings in the sink drawers and on the window sill in the morn, but that was no huge concern for us, but might be for others. We had a great stay. Thanks.

When we arrived there were hornets in the bedroom and spray under the sink so it was a known problem. They should have let us know as this is a serious allergy. There was no hot water ever. We had 1/3 roll of toilet paper. A near empty dish soap which had been watered down. There were items listed as being available which weren't. The cabin is very close to the major road into Ohiopyle and quite busy. It was immaculate and very cute but when the basics like hot water are missing it's hard to come back. We did email and call the management who did get back to an email but never our call.

We enjoyed our short stay at the Orndorff. It's fully appointed and quite tastefully decorated. Two things of note: there are some spice jars in the form of "black memorabilia" in the kitchen that might be considered racist to some. Also, there was quite a collection of dead or almost-dead bugs in the interior windowsills. When we pulled out the vacuum, we found the canister to be crawling with insects. Still, if we ever find ourselves back in that area, we would stay again. The porch is in a lovely position for whiling away the hours.

PROS:Spacious, bright, unique decor. Easy process for making arrangements. Very close and convenient to local sites and activities.CONS:Very close to the road, a bit noisy. No curtains = no privacy and very bright moon waking us at night. Dead bugs everywhere and lots of live wasps buzzing around. Mouse poop on counters is a health hazard; need to tell people to mouse-proof food items in storage containers. The couch is so uncomfortable, we couldn't even sit together on it. Guests should not be made to feel like our staying there is an "inconvenience" to the cleaning staff. Not sure exactly what they do other than pick up the laundry and towels. The place wasn't close to spotless. Dead bugs on the bedspreads!

The reservation agent was personable and helpful. The cabin was great, as others have commented even better than it looks online. The location was perfect for touring Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. The cabin had everything we needed. Our only suggestion would be to add nightstands next to the beds. However the fatal flaw, for us, was the road noise in the morning. It awakened us at about 6 a.m., earlier than we planned to arise. I would certainly use OVR again, but I would look for a property a bit further from the road.

The Cabin was very nice, very quaint with lots of character. It was close to restaurants and attractions. It was a tad too close to the other cabin. We were disappointed that it didn't have its own firepit. On the surface it looked clean but upon looking closer there was major dust under the beds and the drain in the shower had a huge wad of hair on top of it. I wiped up some water that spilled on the kitchen floor and the paper towel was black; I think the floors need a good scrub. It was good value for the money as there is not much alternatives in the area. An Ohiopyle Disaster
A guest from Bridgeville, PA does not recommend this property.
Stayed for 3 days in June, 2012
First there was no power in the cabin (from a storm) which couldn't have been helped by management but we were not notified beforehand. Customer service told us that "they were hoping that the power would be back on by the time we got there". Having 3 small children we couldn't stay there that long to wait it out. Also, there was a 1 inch gap along the bottom of the exterior doors that all sorts of bugs could crawl in (there should be some door sweeps installed). There were dead bugs on all the window sills and some of the window screens were missing. They sent us to another property which was really run down from the outside, the back deck was in disrepair. The inside was nice and fairly modern but my son was crawling on the kitchen floor and was filthy when I picked him up and obviously the place had just been varnished and smelled awful. So we stayed the night in a hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our children loved the outdoors and Ohiopyle has much to offer that we did not previously know about. The rental offered decent accommodations, however it is located very close to a country road where cars fly by. This was a safety issue for our four small children and it took away from the nature surrounding. No dishwasher or washer/dryer, however we made due by pretending we were pioneers. We loved the experience it gave our children and the conversations it started about the 'old days.' Our only wish was that it was not so close to another rental, that was being rented, or the road. Thankfully, the other rental was being used by boy scouts that were very respectful. If ur looking for privacy, this rental is not for you.

We absolutely loved our stay at Orndorff Cabin. The house was full of rustic charm and tasteful, thoughtful decor. The two-story kitchen was a dream. It was also full of modern amenities including TV/DVD, microwave, toaster, A/C, etc. Great price: we had a complete house for the cost of a hotel room in most cities. I was pleased with the condition of the house although it is too close to the road and the other house than I would like. The property is overall clean except for the mice droppings in the kitchen. The droppings were on the cutting board, window sill by the kitchen sink, and the cupboard where the property binder and housekeeper card are kept. The mice droppings were a big turnoff for me, therefore I will not recommend this property to a friend or be returning to the property myself. In addition there was no curtain in the bathroom which creates a privacy issue for me.
