Oertelshain is one of Saxony’s smallest villages: it only consists of six farmsteads. Our property includes two natural ponds and a creek with running water also in summer. Depending on the season, different kinds of birds, butterflies, deer and fishes can be observed. Those knowledgeable about herbs can find quite a few of interest at the creek or the forest edge; friends of mushrooms will find their satisfaction in the surrounding forests. Its location at the B175 and the autobahn A4 makes Oertelshain easily accessible by car. The drive to the Dresden airport takes about one hour, to Leipzig airport, half an hour longer. Chemnitz, Zwickau and Altenburg, cities offering interesting city centers and sights are 30 minutes of driving away. Twenty minutes by car get you to the Sachsenring Hohenstein-Ernstthal, where one of the Moto-GP races takes place every year. Schloss Colditz castle, which also served as POW camp for American officers during WWII, is one hour of driving distant. Of course, this is just a small sample of things to do; there is much more on offer (bike tours, hiking, barbecue evenings, wine tastings, the Bismarck tower in Glauchau, etc.)
Oertelshain administratively belongs to Remse and is quietly located at the edge of the Zwickauer Muldental valley. The village of six farmsteads is one of the smallest in all of Germany; it has only 21 inhabitants.
The settlement was first documented 1390 in a deed of Veits I. under the name Etzelshain; in the purchase of the Schönburger about a monastery property of 1543, it was called Adelshain. Until 1937, when it was incorporated into Remse, Oertelshain was an independent settlement.
Kertzsch, Kleinchursdorf and Weidensdorf also belong to the incorporated village.
We don’t work as farmers, but there are some animals to pet, hay is made twice a year, the garden offers something to harvest almost year-round, and carp can be watched in the natural pond.
So, if you are looking for a quiet vacation, but are also up for some bike tours or visits to castles, you are at the right place.
