Second time here was so disappointing! Sad, sad house. A guest from Hood River, OR does not recommend this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2011 We stayed at this house 3 years ago and had a wonderful time. When we got to the house this year, there was a horrible mold smell in the downstairs bedrooms and hall. The hall carpet was soaking wet. We assumed it was due to the rain storm and reported it to SSVR the next morning. It turns out that the water heater had been leaking.(kudos to SSVR for getting it replaced that day) The roof was leaking in several places- there was a bowl with a towel in the middle of the living room to catch one of the leaks. The back windows were leaking as well. The bedding was worn and the towels were all old and frayed. The kitchen was still fine but one skillet is not sufficient for 9 people staying there. We ended up having to leave a day early as the mold was making 3 of our guests sick. This is a nice home in a great location that has been sadly neglected and is in need of repair. I hope that the owners show it some TLC. Property Manager Response: Response from Sunset Vacation Rentals Thank you for your feedback. Both the smell and wet carpet was to due to the water heater leaking on the day of guest check in. We immediately replaced the water heater and cleaned up the water. I am pleased to let you know the smell definetely isn't mold, just musty from the water leak. It has been cleaned up, dried and good as new! There were a few leaks found due to the heavy rains we have had, but the owners took immediate action to repair them. There are plenty of new bedding and towels and also the owner purchased several new frying pans. Family Thanksgiving at Bella vista in Manzanita A guest from Seattle, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in November, 2010 Lots of snow delayed a few family members from this trip but everyone made it in time for Thanksgiving. The house has a beautiful view of the ocean (hence the name) and we all enjoyed our stay. Several issues to improve on - the direction brochure says that we need to provide our own wood but the house rules said that wood was provided (it was in the garage). We also had a circuit blow on us but couldn't locate the circuit breaker wher the circuit was blown. Found one circuit in the laudnry room but none were tripped. Without power for several days for a portion of the house. Suspect a second circuit breaker is behind a locked door in the garage - not a good plan. The house was very clean and the kitchen was well set up with many utensils and cooking tools. Beach access is very close, very quiet location, but close to town..you can walk to the beach and walk to main street of Manzanita in about 15 minutes. Stunning views from the balcony and lots of good heating sources, so a winter stay would be lovely as well. Nicely furnished with leather couches, comfy chairs, dining options. Beds are comfortable. Hot tub was clean. Now for the suggestions: Firewood is actually provided, but management company said it was $5 per bundle..not a big deal, but it would have been nice not to spend the extra $15 for wood. Also, management company said you needed to drive to the beach...actually there is a well travelled walking path to the beach about 20 feet away, so easily walkable by most people. One weird paper towels is a pretty expensive rental, and some paper towels would have been lovely.Also, the scents used in the house..airfresheners, what have you, are not natural..the synthetic perfumes are a bit much. The house had every amenity we could have possibly wanted or needed. There was room to be together and room to get away from the crowd. The views were amazing and the distance from the town and the beach perfect for us. We hope to return to this house whenever we can get the whole family together for another trip to the Oregon Coast. The only downside was that the hills were difficult to navigate with a stroller because they were so steep. Fabulous, relaxing stay A guest from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 2 days in May, 2009 We had 14 women stay for the weekend, and everyone ooohed and ahhhed about the house. It was clean, well-stocked and beautifully decorated. It was the perfect house for a large group because the common areas were big enough that everyone could relax together, cooking, hanging out or eating, yet there were enough private areas that people could get away for some alone time, naps, etc. Also a good beach house for a rainy weekend (not that that ever happens on the oregon coast!). It was spectacular to watch the weather roll in over the ocean from the living room's huge windows, not to mention sitting in the hot tub watching the waves. I couldn't have hoped for a better beach house - looking forward to getting back here some time in the future! Stayed for 6 days in November, 2008 I was very happy with the location and outfitting of the property--it has a wonderful view and everything that we needed. I was disappointed with the managment's response when we had a water leak, and even more disappointed in how they have handled it since (one of the couple that came ended up sleeping in their car when the leak took their bedroom out of commission.) I think that they should have given me a credit for the inconvience and disruption to my guests. I am disappointed with the management's follow through, but still love the house. You will have a great time there as long as nothing goes wrong.
