Very enjoyable stay at rental cottage! A guest from Heffley Creek, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in May, 2013 I just got back from 1 week at the rental cottage. The location was great for me, as I did not have a rental vehicle, but used the bikes provided with the cottage to get around. A quick ride along the coast up to the town centre of La Jolla or to do some grocery shopping! It worked out excellent and I totally enjoyed a laid back week away from it all.Very private. The location accommodates walking or biking to everything in the area. We even rode to the board walk at Mission Beach! The restaurant suggestions provided by the owners was very helpful and spot on. We had problems with the TV and the patio heater, but they were promptly fixed after we notified the rental agency. It's a relatively small lodging, but all you need if you spend most of your time visiting the sites in La Jolla. Definitely recommend! Even though you are in behind the owner's house, you feel like you are secluded. The pictures on VRBO did not lie. It was adorable. The cottage had every convience right down to bbq sauce, discount coupons for Sea World, flashlight and a beach cooler. We were really sorry that we didn't get a chance to ride the bikes, they looked like so much fun! We ran out of time. We loved having access to the beach toys, but were frustrated a bit by the challenges the sand present. We were asked to not track sand into the cottage and to rinse the surf boards, but had no easy way to do it. We suggest access to a hose outside would really aid in this effort. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2012 We were a little surprised to find that the beach rental cottage was a converted garage situated in the back yard of a larger residence. However, there is a private gated entrance and patio. The space was clean, updated and very cute! It's perfect for a couple. The amenities were great, the location was great and everyone in the neighborhood was very friendly. We loved that they allow pets, we were able to take them on a short walk to the beach everyday. Wind and Sea is a beautiful, clean, laid back beach very close to the rental. There are a ton of great places to shop, eat and explore in the area. Overall we were satisfied and would stay there again. Our only real concern was that the construction being done to the main house during our stay. Just as a suggestion maybe construction should be done on days that no one in renting out the guest house. There was banging and yelling in the early morning (to be expected with construction). We had to walk through all of their tools and materials to access our gate as they were working on the shared driveway. Stayed for 4 days in April, 2012 We managed to book the cottage last minute despite having some very frustrating communication (or lack of) with the property management company. They seemed very disorganized and young and as a result, we weren't sure what we were getting into. However, once we found the cottage, we were pleasantly surprised. The cottage is actually a nicely renovated garage on the back of a private home. It is very private and well appointed. The space is full of light and the bed is very comfy. We didn't use the back deck much as the weather was cool during our stay but I imagine it would be beautiful when it is warmer. The owners of the property live in the main house and they were very welcoming and helpful but gave us our privacy. They had a list of restaurants to try and we appreciated the recommendations. Our favorite breakfast spot was The Coffee Cup in La Jolla - they had a fantastic menu and everything was delicious. We would definitely recommend the cottage as a private, reasonably priced alternative to the hotels in the region. There is a park on the mountain which is 5 minutes walk from the cottage that we took our dogs to for a walk, and it is just beautiful. The cottage was cozy, which had a bed that was extremely comfortable. The cottage had everything you need to feel at home. The only thing that was a little upsetting was there is no grass on the patio of the cottage and my dogs would not go to the bathroom, I had to keep taking them out to the front. There was also dogs at a residence behind the cottage that would bark everytime they heard my dogs. Overall it was a great place to stay and will be back! Support staff at Seabreeze Rentals are very helpful. Location is good example of transitional properties from older 1930s through 1960s middle class residential to investor and gentrification owners. Many refurbishment construction projects are heard during the day even on the waterfront where completed rebuilds sell for over $2 million. It is possible to walk to restaurants and the beach, but a car is desireable. Only fluff and fold laundry service is available locally and the rate is $3 per pound or roughly $40 per laundry load. Dogs are popular in this area and skilled surfers can be viewed daily on the coast. This is an opportunity to see the transition to aristocracy in Southern California that may not be accessible to most people in another decade or two. Enjoy! Comfortable Cottage Near Beach Frank M. from Oakland, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in September, 2011 This was a sweet little beach cottage?tasteful interior, good bed, excellent outdoor living room, near the beach and a great park in a generally quiet residential neighborhood. Downtown La Jolla is walking distance, about 15 minutes away (a little farther than I was hoping but still close); the beach is about 3-4 blocks, maybe 5 minutes. There's a park up the street, 1 minute, with a great jogging/biking/dog-walking trail. The cottage included a bicycle, a beach umbrella, boogie boards, surfboards, and more. We rented a pack and play for our six-month old. Tiny but functional kitchen (augmented by a grill outside?though unfortunately the fish market on Pearl, La Pescadora, was closed during our stay)?and my wife would have preferred a small couch rather than the chairs, as well as a few more towels, but overall this was a tasteful, well-located, comfortable getaway cottage with responsive management that we happily to recommend to friends (and strangers). Recommendtion with Caveat Reviewed by: Anna D. recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in September, 2011 Would I recommend this property to a friend? Yes?with a caveat. The place is cozy and cute, with a small comfortable patio area with BBQ. The house has a well equipped kitchen. There are books and games and a VIP card, good for discounts at local restaurants. The place is just as described and seen in the photos on the website. The caveat to friends - in addition to the daily rate, we paid an additional $100 cleaning fee for 3 nights. If we wanted daily cleaning (making the bed, changing linens, etc.) there would have been an additional fee. We did ask about a refund if the place was tidy when we left, without a response. So?while our receipt says we paid $135 per night, really we paid $168 per night. The place was clean when we arrived, except for the very dirty area rug in the center of the living space. The next trip to La Jolla we will try something else. Perhaps if ate out less and used the kitchen more, it would have been worth it, but at the price, we think we can get more ?bang for our buck?. Sub-standard Rental A guest from Centennial, CO does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2011 Let's start with the bathroom. There is one recessed ceiling light in the center of the cramped space which means you cannot see yourself in the mirror. There is no light over the sink. It took several days to find the one electric outlet which is inside the medicine cabinet rather than an accessible spot on the wall. There is no window to allow natural light. So, to put on makeup, you need to find someplace else in the cottage.Next, the kitchen area. The ad states that it is fully equipped. The sink is miniature with a dish drying rack that accommodates a few dishes or glasses with no utensil holder. There is no stove, dishwasher, garbage disposal and no space to do food preparation other than on top of a roll away cabinet. Food cooking is limited to a toaster oven and microwave oven. There is also a section of the tile floor that was chipped out that has never been repaired.Clothes storage is very limited. Other than a 3 ft. clothes rod, there are a few pull-out storage drawers.Sleeping arrangement. The bed is comfortable; however, with 2 skylights overhead, the room is very light at 5:00AM which makes it very difficult to sleep, so you need a sleeping mask to cover your eyes.The ad states that there is a couch which will sleep a third person. There is no couch. In addition, the area rug has many soiled spots and needs a total cleaning.The back patio is not very private as you can hear people in the very close building behind the cottage, and I'm sure they can overhear you. The studio turned out to be a garage with a T.V., bed, and small refrigerator. It was dirty, and not well maintained. We were called after the first night about a noise complaint. We had a friend over, who drove from East County after work, to visit. We were not making noise other than a quiet conversation. On the other hand, the lawn crew showed up at 8am with their leaf blower right outside our window. Not very relaxing. For the price we paid, this was a very disappointing experience. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2011 My husband, 18-month old and I stayed for 5 days during the first week of May and the accommodations were ideal. The cottage is a guest room located behind the main house with its own private entry way and private patio equipped with everything you could possibly need. The owners occupy the front house, which I liked because I was afraid that if there were other vacation renters they might be too loud. I liked that the soap and cleaning products under the sink were all non-toxic and that the cottage itself was well maintained and decorated tastefully. The location itself was perfect for us...walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shops, and an easy drive to Seaworld, the Zoo and Pacific Beach. While the listing states it sleeps 2-3, I think 3 adults would be cramped, however, 2 adults and very small child is manageable. The neighborhood felt very safe (safe enough for a female to travel alone), with lots of families and pet owners walking around. There's also a small park at the end of the block. It felt like home immediately. I would recommend this cottage for couples needing a getaway, a girl getaway, or even for an individual who needs a break.
