Stayed for 31 days in January, 2013 The view in this unit is spectacular, however the unit is not worth the money it costs to stay here. I have contacted the managment company many times and I am not satisfied with the results. The sliding windows are very difficult to open and close, the kitchen is poorly equipped, furnishings are old. When I opened the sofa bed and looked at the mattress pad it was disgusting. After a one week wait, a new pad was installed, then when I went to use the sheet they two were totally disgusting. I had to buy glasses and some kitchen utensil. No matching cups, glasses, poor kitchen equipment. The bathroom rug was so old the backing was falling off and it was dangerous to step on for fear of sliding. The chairs are not comfortable. The property's general condition was good, loved the floors and the kitchen appliances. The location was great,the view was wonderful, loved the two minute walk to the beach. The property was very clean, the management company responded promptly one night when the push button outside door lock failed us. I would recommend the property to a friend but I would share the following information: I did wish for a 10 inch frying pan and a toaster which I did not have to turn upside down and shake to get the toast out. We did not find the furniture on the outside lanai, neither the chairs nor the table, to be comfortable for relaxing or usable to for eating a meal. We love the Kihei Surfside property and location but the unit #513 is not our first choice as to location on the property.Our total stay was great so the following comments are not ment to degrade that in any way. The electral problem in the outlet the floor lamp is pluged into should be fixed and the lamp by the TV, though not usable in that location needs fixing. Also that bedspread looks filthy. The table and chairs on the patio are not the best for eating and relaxing. When eating there you have a real problem. Try it and you will see what we mean.Again, these were not issues that did anything to take away our enjoyment there. We loved being there. We had our Honeymoon in Hawaii 40 years ago and have been back probably about 35 times since. Your company personel are wonderful. Thank you! The unit itself, was lacking in a couple of area. It was very short on kitchen supplies, ie mixing bowls, salad bowls, casseroles, cooking pans and utensils and storage containers and what they did have was very old. The inside of the cupboards were not that clean and needed painting(the outside of the cupboards had been updated). There were few cleaning supplies to maintain the unit on a daily basis. All in all the kitchen just felt a bit grungy and the dishwasher was the noisiest thing we had ever heard. Always made sure we turned it on when we were going out. The location was great with a fantastic view of the ocean and with the West Exposure, you could watch the sun set every night. We really enjoyed the location, you could walk to Kehei restaurants and shops or go South along miles of beaches and you are right on the water, so no roads to cross. Good secure parking. 513 Kihei Surfside A guest from Kansas City, MO does not recommend this property. Stayed for 6 days in September, 2010 We've stayed at the Kihei Surfside several times over the years, always loving the seaside location and the nearness (next door!) of a great beach. We commend the availability of recycling onsite. The 513 unit we occupied this time had great updates: beautiful flooring, nice kitchen cabinets, counters and appliances. However, the updated appeal was rather ruined by the furnishings: worn, dated, uncomfortable, and somewhat dusty/moldy seeming wicker-type furniture in the living area and bedroom drug down the overall ambience to a less-than-appealing level. Replacing all the furniture would help the overall appeal tremendously, and would remove that mold feeling. Other issues: no pantry/storage space for guests to keep groceries; we put everything, including crackers and chips, in the refrigerator. Many kitchen cooking utensils were really nasty; replacing plastic cooking spoons, spatulas, etc., would not be expensive. There were dirty glasses in the cabinet and the flatware was less-than-clean looking. The shower grout and shower door tracks were dirty and mildewy. Both toilets had disgusting stains and mildew rings that appeared to be easily removable. Several lighting problems: nightlite in bath and stove light did not work, bulb in bedside lamp flickered (we replaced it), and the bedroom needs more lighting. Perhaps maintenance should check lights and cleanliness (especially toilets) right before guests arrive. The living room TV is way too small for viewing from the couch. The bath cabinets are in dire need of refinishing, as they also had a worn, dirty look that didn't go with the newer flooring. As for the property/grounds itself, the manager on duty when we checked in was very nice and helpful, but no one was available during posted hours when we wanted to check out the last day - we went down several times between 10 and 11 a.m. and could not find anyone and the office was locked. Love the property, the people, the location, convenience and sunset HOWEVER... although all units basically have the same layout and furnishings, one should be aware the Units and comfort within is NOT all the same. The only two things that were of real concern and critical to one's stay is the QUALITY of the Bed/Pillows (critical to get a relaxing and restful sleep) and the QUALITY of kitchen utensils/cutlery for meal preparation and eating. This year I have to say the unit we rented was a big disappointment. We both returned to Vancouver with aching backs and stiff necks and did not get one restful night sleep. That's okay during the daytime, but at night it feels like you're in a fishbowl. All the other units seemed to have window coverings on this side.The other major problem was the shower stall. It smelled very moldy as soon as the water was started and had visible mold on several areas of grout. In addition, the hand-held shower head was partially broken and not performing properly.Of less importance, the large frying pan was very worn. We had a great time & this condo was very well located for any sort of activity. Close to all amenities & beaches. No air conditioning but that was no problem as the breeze from the trade winds cools the place nicely. The only problem we had was due to our inexperience. Our return flight left Maui at 11:00pm & our check out time was 11:00am the same day. We had no where to secure our luggage for the 12 hours on the last day in order to enjoy one last afternoon on the beach. We would have appreciated the heads up about this when we first booked. Surfside is wonderful A guest from North Vancouver, BC recommends this property. Stayed for 10 days in November, 2008 I only have a few comments about this condo which was very lovely. The first is that the bed was very uncomfortable. The mattress is so firm that I had to sleep on the living room couch. This was the first time in all my travels that I had a bed I was uncomfortable in. My husband managed to sleep on it but not very well. I would not re-rent this particular condo because of this unfortunately but would rent another one in this complex. Also it would have been helpful when the power went off if the crank flashlight also had a radio (we have this in our home). We had no idea of what was going on or when they thought it might be fixed. We also weren't sure about the evening "party" that occurred every evening as the manager never mentioned it to us so we were never sure if we should join them. We aren't they type to just "arrive". I would also suggest that the picture in the living room that has turned very blue be removed. There is such wonderful artwork hanging else where in the condo that it is distracting and would make the livingroom look so much nicer. Other than these little (and they are little) things I loved our stay here. It was so hard to come home. This complex is definitely where we will stay next time and have recommended it to everyone we have talked to. We have also recommended Hawaii Holiday Vacation Rentals to some of the people we met at the complex who had booked through the internet travel agencies.
