HONU KAI IS LIGHT, OPEN, and completely remodeled with your comfort in mind. This 3-bedroom 3-bath home is located in a special area of Kapoho called Vacationland. The famous Kapoho tide pools, officially known as the Waiopae Marine Conservation Area, are just across the street and contain an astonishing variety of fish, sea creatures, and of course the sea turtles or _honu_ that give the house its name. Thanks to the protection from the open ocean, the tide pools provide a safe and inviting environment for even the novice swimmer to snorkel or just float in crystal clear 80-degree water year 'round.
A little video tease.
THE LARGE MAIN LIVING/DINING/KITCHEN AREA is on the upper level, with windows on two sides opening out to the lanai and a partial view of the water. The three bedrooms have one king and two queen beds and there are two bright, spacious baths upstairs. The decor is a mix of tropical and tasteful retro-Hawaiian, with beautiful linens on the beds. There is a workspace with a desk, high-speed wireless Internet, and phone if you need to keep in touch with the real world while you're in Kapoho.
KAPOHO IS ONE OF THE PLACES that sea turtles call home in Hawaii. Just a short walk and the tide pools beckon you to explore without worry of surf or currents, perfect for those who are not too adventurous in the ocean. For guests who are comfortable in the water there are many more areas to explore, in Kapoho and elsewhere on the Big Island.
AN OUTDOOR, PRIVATE HOT TUB AWAITS YOU when you return from a day of activities. Have a barbecue on the back deck and enjoy the Kapoho sunshine. There is also a full bath and washer/dryer downstairs -- very convenient when you are coming in from a swim or the hot tub!
Year-round rate range is $185 - $275 per night, depending upon party size and dates of your visit. Cleaning fee ranges from $100 to $160, also depending upon party size.
Bedding Configuration: 1 King, 2 Queen
Additional Features:
* Drive Times: 45min to Volcanoes National Park
* Entertainment: FREE high-speed Internet!, Wireless Internet, Satellite TV, CD Player, Stereo System, Cooler, Beach Chairs, Flat Screen TV, Beach Towels

Turtle House A guest from Colchester, CT recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2012 House was roomy but steamy with no A/C. House lived up to its name. We swam with turtles three different times. Snorkelling was fantastic as well. |

We loved Honu Kai!! A guest from Woodinville, Washington recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in June, 2012 Honu Kai far exceeded our expectations in every way! The house was clean, bright and spacious. The kitchen (as well as the rest of the house)was very well equipped. The location was convenient for trips to the volcano and Hilo. We loved snorkeling every day at the tide pools just across the road! Some of the best snorkeling we have ever done on the Big Island! Be sure to get all the info you need from the property management company before you get here because they are a bit difficult to reach. We will definitely be back! Property Manager Response: Response from Aloha Coast Realty, LLC/Hawaii Holiday Vac. Rentals Oh dear! We are a busy office and yes, our phone line is often busy but we always return calls within hours! Just leave us a message, please. Mahalo, Hawaii Holiday Management |

Perfect getaway Mark S. from Adelaide, SA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in August, 2011 Honu Kai was the perfect place to relax, enjoy the tropical evenings after a day out exploring the island with the family. From the comfy beds to the provision of all things that you might need, but forgot to bring along, we were so sad to say goodbye. Thanks for providing us with a home away from home during our stay on Big Island. |

Giving Thanks in Paradise Emily H. from Portland, OR recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in November, 2010 Spent a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend in this lovely home. Excellent location right across from the tidepool access. The home had everything we needed and more for snorkeling, cooking and most of all relaxing. We loved the beautiful landscaping, coming home from the tidepools and taking a dip in the hot tub and making dinner together. The bedrooms are nicely furnished and the linens are top of the line. This was our favorite rental of our entire trip. We hope to be back again! A side note: the frogs can get noisy at night so just bring some ear plugs if you have trouble sleeping. This house is laid out really well and perfect for families or 3 couples. |

Hanspeter S. from Zurich, ZH recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in October, 2010 the only complaint we have to make is that the roof wasn't tight during rainfall. On two locations water was dropping into the living room from the ceiling. But this is really the only negative note we can tell. This place is beautiful and we will allways have good memories. Property Manager Response: Response from Hawaii Holiday Vacation Rentals We're so happy you enjoyed your stay! We are aware of the small roof leaks and the owner is repairing those this month! KapoHoHoHo Royal C. from Salinas, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in July, 2010 Everything was ideal--location, the home itself, the bikes and other supplies, etc., etc. Two little nits. The computer that was pictured in the advertising wasn't there and it would have been nice if it had been, and we weren't able to figure out the iPod player so we were music-less. But, otherwise, everything was A-OK. Thanks |

Secluded getaway Michael L. from Minster, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in May, 2010 We loved the house. I was on the rainy side of the island but it was never a problem. The sun came out in the morning and rained, off and on, in the evening. The hot tube was great touch. Believe me after a few hours of snorkeling you can?t wait to get into the hot tub. The lower level has a washer and dryer?.very nice!! The grill on the back deck is in need of updating but it did the job. There is plenty of Snorkel gear at the house as well but I would encourage you to get a good pair of heavy duty water shoes. The tidal pools are just a short walk from the front door but the rocks are sharp and can be hard to walk on. Try to go at high tide if you can. There is a calendar on the fridge that will give you the times. If you have never snorkeled before you will truly enjoy these tidal pools. There is a small town just east of the house call Pahoa (20 minute drive). You can go there for supplies and groceries. There is a book full of information about the island and places to see while you are there. We found it to be invaluable. Very safe neighborhood with an active neighborhood watch program. Overall a great place. |

Honu Kai is a great vacation home A guest from Issaquah, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in August, 2009 The property was one of the best maintained in this housing development, location to the water was outstanding, the house was very clean, well furnished and comfortable. The only negative was the constant noise at night from the frogs, which made it difficult to sleep some nights. |
