Renting a holiday house to Australians A guest from Brighton, Victoria recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2013 We were very happy with the house and the facilities from a general point of view. To make it a better experience for overseas visitors, suggest provide an electric jug. We had tea drinkers, so boiling water was difficult. We would have been happier if the upstairs had been air conditioned, the TV was a wide screen and that we had had a remote for the garage.A check needed to be done to make sure the phone etc was working. However, that said we did enjoy the house and the kids loved the pool and the boogy boards. Also having somebody there to greet us and the few small provisions was good, perhaps that person could just go through a check list with the guests when they arrive, he would have picked up that the phone wasn't working. |

May 2012 Stay A guest from Santa Cruz, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 8 days in May, 2012 Overall it was a good experience for our party of 8. The house was certainly big enough for everyone to have their space. The location of the house was great. Near the main access and only 10 minutes drive from the main two beaches in town. The pool was great to have as an option. Our issue was with some of the amenities. The beds were not satisfactory. They were mostly futons and were generally uncomfortable, The kitchen was stocked with mostly leftovers - scratched pots and pans, dull knives and although we can't be certain of it, other homes offered more beach amenities - like chairs, ice chest etc. that would have been nice. However there were 5 boogie boards that were great to use. So house and location very good, some of the amenties in it, especially the beds could use some upgrade. Property Manager Response: Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals Following this review beach chairs and cooler were added. Kitchen inspection was done and pots and pans were replaced. In the process of updating the bedding for more comfort. Initially done in Asian style but too firm for most guests from the mainland.Mgmt. |

Great family vacation property Faye H. from Edmonton, AB recommends this property. Stayed for 9 days in March, 2012 We recently stayed at the Komohana Kai for just over a week. The house had everything we needed, and some extras we loved having (boogie boards and beach towels). We were 2 families, 4 adults, 4 small kids, and we loved the pool and the front lawn and lanai to play in. The kids bedrooms got quite hot, and were hard to cool down, but otherwise, no complaints at all. Would definitely stay here again. |

Outstanding value for large families Roberta A. from Belmont, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in January, 2012 Komohana Kai was perfect for our family of 8 adults for 7 nights in February 2012. We appreciated this spacious and comfortable home?s great location and quiet neighborhood. The tropical backyard and pool attracted many species of beautiful Hawaiian birds, and the ocean views and sea breezes were wonderful. The property was clean and had everything we needed (and more) in every room. Although somewhat dated with older furnishings and amenities, the value is outstanding for the price. We never ate out: we bought food at Costco, Walmart, the farmers markets, and Honokohau Harbor (fresh fish); and refilled our growlers at Kona Brewing Company. We barbequed every night on the Weber - the new gas grill didn?t work properly due to problems with the regulator; however, Wayne, the property manager, responded immediately to our call, and this was our only minor mishap. Expect the critters, folks, it?s Hawaii. We especially appreciated having a washer-dryer, 2.5 bathrooms, and boogie boards for Hupuna beach. The kayak-snorkel tour of Kealakekua Bay with Bari of Hawaii Pack and Paddle is not to be missed!Komohana Kai is an outstanding value for large families, and we will not hesitate to stay there again. Mahalo! |

A guest from Tacoma, WA recommends this property.
Stayed for 7 days in July, 2011 The location was great, nice neighborhood, nice view. The house was spacious and it was nice having a pool. I have to say that although you could tell it had been cleaned, the stained carpet and worn furniture took away from it's beauty. Property Manager Response: Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals The carpets were professionally cleaned following this review. |

Review from one of Melissa's guests Melissa B. from Sacramento, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in July, 2010 Had a nice stay at the Komohana Kai property. About 10-15 min away from Alii drive. The bed in the asian room was a little awkward & had couldn't get the blinds open. Other than that, it was nice. |

You get what you pay for Paula S. from Mill Valley, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in June, 2010 The house is newer, but currently for sale and not being well-maintained. It doesn't appear as any gardening, aside from lawn mowing, has been done in several years. All the trees and shrubs are overgrown, and there are weeds surrounding the back patio. Pool toys were in a pile amongst the weeds and covered with leaves and dead bugs. The fountain in the picture doesn't work. The patio furniture is falling apart. The house has an odd layout and doesn't appear to have ever been someone's home. The furnishings were nice, the interior was very clean, and the house was roomy, but those are the only pluses. When we arrived, only one bathroom out of three had toilet paper. The antique Chinese bed was not really usable because of its design, and the TV in that room hasn't been programmed, so we did not use that entire room at all. The blinds are cheap and mostly non-functional, or falling out of their brackets. The wi-fi modem doesn't work and you have to plug your computer directly into the wall. There was a list in a kitchen drawer from several past tenants of all the things wrong, that could use attention, but it doesn't appear that anything has been attended to, aside from cleaning, for a long, long time. We specifically asked if there were any undisclosed noise issues and were told no, but the house next door is having daily construction work being done that kept the baby in our group from taking naps. The house is not on regular garbage service so the garbage stacks up until you leave. Overall, I'd give this property a C-. |

Stayed for 10 days in June, 2010 Property Manager Response: Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals Guests complained of ants at the property. Owner responded with ant bait and explained we were experiencing a high activity this summer from small black ants. Some of the keys were missing or did not work. Owner had new keys made and brought over. I checked with the guest and was told the ants had decreased but there was still some by the pool?! The property is treated about every 3 months for critters. Other forms of insects did not appear to be an issue. |

Kona Hawaii March 2010 A guest from Daly City, CA recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in March, 2010 We loved our stay in Kona. The house is located right off the highway and in sunny Kona. Christmas 2009 A guest from Bainbridge Island, WA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in December, 2009 Perfect location on the Big Island, especially for those looking to take advantage of a wide array of activities. Snorkeling, beaches, golf and the town of Kailua all within close proximity. Also, for those looking to do their own cooking, local and well stocked markets including Safeway,a farmer's market and a local supermarket are within easy reach. Having the pool was a plus and it was quite refreshing. House accommodated 8, of which 4 were adults, 3 were grown children and 1 child all fit comfortably. Good and spacious family room and the dining table accommodated all at meals. Washer and dryer turned out to be a very helpful and much used amenity, especially given our focus on beach, snorkeling and pool activities.Kitchen was serviceable and met all our needs but could have been a bit better equipped. The coffee grinder didn't work and we could have used a steamer for vegetables, salad spinner. The outside barbecue was out of gas and we couldn't tell if it worked even if it had fuel. Frankly, these are mostly quibbles in what turned out to be a comfortable rental that met pretty much all our needs. All in all, as a family we regard this as one of our best vacations. |

Nice House but needs some kitchenware and remotes with batteries.. Aaron P. from Girdwood, AK recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in February, 2009 On the whole great place to stay in a nice quiet neighborhood with lots of space for a couple families or couples to spread out. Only drag was for such a nice place with a nice kitchen to be so poorly equipped. Batteries in remotes would be another plus. |

Holiday in Hawaii 2009 Jon & Teri G. from Bentonville, Arkansas recommends this property. Stayed for 11 days in December, 2008 We had a wonderful stay during with our family. This was by far one of the nicest rentals we have stayed in over the past years. Three comments for the management company to consider for future guest knowledge: 1) We were surprised to find no air conditioning. Could be that we didn't read carefully enough on website. House had fans, but still got too warm/sticky in the afternoons. Guests with asthma could have problems. 2)We were not prepared for the geckos in the house nor the ant population. Geckos became part of the ambience; ants were a problem. 3) Solar pool cover would have been really nice. Pool was VERY cold! These are not complaints, just suggestions for future guest knowledge. Overall, great place! We would definitely recommend. |

Komohan Kai A guest from Tumwater, WA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 9 days in December, 2008 No garbage cans that we could find; dishwasher did not work; beds were very bad--4 bedrooms and only one bed--the rest were futons--unacceptable for the money we paid. They did bring us garbage cans and light bulbs when we called them, but no explanation on the dishwasher. Would be nice to have orientation to the house when you arrive--either written or better yet, the rental manager to walk you thought the property and explain where things can be found and how they worked. Property Manager Response: Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals Owners had removed trash from previous guests and had not returned the cans prior to this guest arrival. Cans were returned within an hour of our knowing. There are no futons in this house all beds. I sent my appliance guy over as soon as I heard about the dishwasher, and we found that the plug was pulled out of the socket. It was replaced and ran fine. Again within an hour of knowing. |
