Not my favorite suite! Lindsay P. from Malton, ON Canada does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in April, 2013 This is my second time staying at the Casa De Emdeko and I wasn't as impressed at the condition of the condo unit I stayed in this time. The location is awesome nice and close to the ocean, I will give it that. It needs maintenance and the cleaning was very poor. With in minutes my feet were black and everything had a layer of dust and there were hardly any linens, towels etc. When we called to complain since you are paying for a cleaning deposit, they did come but not until a week day. They did supply us with sheets and towels which was great and I suppose they did some touch up cleaning but you wouldn't have known it. I left things a certain way to see if they were moved like a towel in front of the shower on the floor and lets just say nothing changed so I spent the week wearing shoes in the condo, since I didn't trust the cleanliness of it and it really didn't give me a cozy feeling. I just found things to be old not well kept, cracked patio table, patio door was a pain to close with screen door, couldn't find certain things like scissors, storage containers with lids, there was one dish towel and a sponge for cleaning. I could go on, but overall it really didn't impress me. All that being said I still enjoyed my stay in Hawaii and spent little time in the condo so it certainly wasn't enough to ruin my trip in any way. I wouldn't rent this unit again, but I would come back to the Casa in a different suite. They were rebuilding a stair case and putting in new rails, the condo company does take good care of the property on the out side. It is a beautiful spot right on the ocean with beautiful grounds. The units are simple with great views. The property is aging with some deferred maintenance but this does not generally distract from your visit. The Management Company we rented from was professional and paid attention to details, but I was surprised that we had to pay a half days "rent" for a late checkout. Stayed for 17 days in October, 2012 Casa de Emdeko is in a great location, midway between a great park for snorkeling and the town of Kailua. The facilities are also very good with both fresh water and sea water swimming pools, which were never busy during our 17 day stay.However, Condo 233 was a big disappointment, feeling not very clean when we arrived so we felt we needed to wash all the crockery and utensils before we could use them. We then found that, although it functioned, the dishwasher did not get the dishes clean. We had to wash dishes by hand for the duration of our stay. We also found that the ice maker in the refrigerator did not work and, as there was no kettle, had to use a saucepan for boiling water. Our unit was spacious but had older furniture. The oven was broken when we arrived and the dishwasher broke while we were there. We greeted a repairman for the lighting the first morning. The management was nice enough to let us stay another night after I made a mistake in our next booking bit they never fixed the washer or offered compensation. We stayed there 1 week and enjoyed the proximity to kona and the highway without the buzz of downtown. Kailua Kona is a great , and Casa is the place to stay. John C. from East Orleans, MA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 31 days in October, 2011 Casa Complex is great though a little old and worn in places. The garden staff maintains a beautiful setting. The salt water pool at waters edge was a delight. The grill area was great, the grills first class, and the crew cleaned them every day. Out front of the complex is the little convenience store which was real handy for getting the morning paper. Generally the unit we stayed in was nice, with good views. It is in need of kitchen and bathroom updates. You have to get in the shower and turn it on or the shower head shoots water out and onto the floor. Couldn't adjust the shower head. The kitchen cabinets, and stove need a good scrub down. The white cushioned chair in the living area was old, stained, and filthy. It needs to be replaced. The lanai furniture could be improved. The plastic seat straps were all very sticky on the underside. We had to clean the refrigerator door which was pretty dirty. Also the refrigerator leaked water on the inside the whole time we were there. We dealt with it by folding towels and placing on the racks to sop up the water. The pull chain on the lanai sun screen (which was taped up in a couple of places) broke the first week we were there. The complex manager was very helpful by providing new bead chain , connectors, and a ladder. I repaired the the screen. No problem after that.The Lanai could use a fan, but it didn't bother us that it didn't have one.Other than these small problems... the overall experience was excellant. We looked at some other Condo complexes while there, and we think we made the right choice with Casa. The Big Island offers a lot to visitors and we felt the aloha spirit everywhere we went. I would recommend Casa and the Big Island to my friends and family in a heart beat. The best units to me are the first 4-5 from the water, 2nd and 3rd floors. Stayed for 8 days in November, 2010 The location of Condo 233 is about right, on the 2nd floor, so not too many steps, but high enough to have a nice view, from the Lani, over the Cabana on the right and the fresh water pool on the left. We enjoyed it so much that we ate just about every breakfast and dinner on the Lani.The facilities in the Condo contained everything we needed for cooking, eating, showering and sleeping during our 8 day stay, but things could have been cleaner and the place could do with a new shower, some new appliances and redecorating. However, I must say that after doing a little cleanup work ourselves this did not stop us enjoying our stay in 233.The general Condo complex facilities were 1st class, with very convenient parking, a lovely freshwater pool area and a nice saltwater pool/man made beach/oceanfront area that was enjoyable for evening sunsets.Casa Emdeko is convenient for evenings in the town of Kailua and only 30 minutes from the Airport car rentals. It is also centrally located for exploring the Kona and Kohala Coasts and the north of the Island.All in all, we had a great vacation and would definitely stay at Casa Emdeko again in the future, including Condo 233, if we were assured it had been given a "face lift".
