With its spectacular vantage point on a hill above Jimbaran, this unusually long, three-storey house just soaks up the view. From every room – and from the 60sqm infinity pool, which appears to overflow into the extraordinary scene – Bali’s southern plains are laid out before you like a map upon a dashboard. The narrow isthmus that links the Bukit Peninsula with the rest of the island is clearly visible, with ocean on both sides, extending north past the crescent-shaped Jimbaran Bay along the sunset coast before reaching inland. On a clear day you can see Bali’s chain of volcanoes, from the mighty Mt Agung to the serene Mt Batukaru, stretching towards the distant mountains of East Java. Both sunrise and sunset can be enjoyed from here, and watching distant planes take off and land on the airport runway, which juts out to sea a few kilometres away, can be a unique and mesmerising pastime.
