Resort: Bathing resort, 8 km west from La Rochelle. Access: harbour La Pallice 4 km. For arrivals by plane: airport La Rochelle (LRH) 7 km, Bordeaux (BOD) 200 km. The low houses with red roofs give a distinct character to the 10 villages on the island, from the Sablanceaux point to the Baleines. Access to the island is via a toll bridge 3 km (tariff varies according to season between 10 and 17 euros).
