The location was good, a nice walk to the beach, shopping and close to bus stops. The only compaint I would have would be the noise of the traffic. The location was great and the front desk personnel were wonderfully helpful. Our unit was perfect for our stay but it probably needs a more thorough cleaning ie floors were looking like they needed a little tlc and the walls needed a wipe down in spots. Stayed for 15 days in September, 2012 Booked this apartment for 2 weeks to get over jetlag and before we headed off to the Big Island. We didn?t plan to spend much time here, as we expected to be out most of the day.Pros? Fairway Villa is very well managed. Security is top notch (the reception staff are always at their desk and looking at the cameras). Staff is friendly and building is clean. Parking for #1410 is spacious.? Our Guest Services Rep, Bryon was waiting for us when we drove up to the condo. He took us up to our assigned parking spot, showed the apartment to us, noticed there were some start-up amenities missing (washing up liquid, sponge etc) and promptly replaced them.? Washer and dryer (good for small loads) in Studio were extremely useful.? The 29th floor deck is great for watching fireworks and life going on below in Waikiki. BBQs are immaculately maintained.? The two single beds weren?t too soft. Cons? My biggest gripe was the air conditioning unit. Even after the service staff came to fix/clean out the unit, it continued to rattle, shake, and make loud noises whenever the compressor kicked in. We could not figure which was worse and more detrimental to our sleep quality ? sleeping with the air con on or with the windows open and being woken up throughout by traffic/sirens/drunks below.? Even though the unit has a kitchen, don?t bother cooking here ? the exhaust fan doesn?t work. We made breakfast one morning and the smell of bacon and eggs just didn?t leave the room.? Periodically expect other cooking smells to waft in from other people?s units (even with the doors and windows closed).Overall, if you are looking for a budget apartment with parking in Waikiki, this might suit you. But as a previous reviewer mentioned, don?t expect to get any sleep until they change the air con unit though. The washer & dryer were useful but you had to hold up the lid of the washer. The kitchen facilities could have been better. Drapes need to be replaced. view was nice. The self-catering option here is good as the supermarket is just down the street. The bus stop is also nearby so this location is really great for people with various purposes visiting Waikiki - mine was business (going to the University of Hawaii) and pleasure. I'll be recommending Captain Cook to the next teacher visiting next year. I just wish I could be sent here again. I may do so in a private capacity anyway! Stayed for 3 days in June, 2011 It is exactly what I expected ; ) !It's not big,but cozy,clean,and has everything we needed-not to close to next bldg,has a parking,balcony with view,king size bed-which was 2 single bed put together,but worked just fine.Why 4 stars?Well,of course ocean view is better right!But they have a roof top pool and jacuzzi(small though) and you can get a great view from there.I've been to Hawaii 15+ time in my life and this is my 'must' when I choose a hotel/condo...if not ocean view,get a room by the edge of Waikiki,which is by Fort Derussy park,Ala wai river,or by Kapiolani park.Why...Waikiki is VERY view means your room is lower part of the bldg,which is busy,except you get a room on these area.This condo is right next to Ala wai so you can get a nice mountain view!Also Waikiki is small,so it's just a few minutes walk to beach. A guest from Mount Gambier, SA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 16 days in April, 2011 This is a good little studio unit. However a few things really let it down. The air conditioner rattled so loudly it is impossible to sleep with it on. Proper installation would have helped but it was propped up on a piece of wood and a magazine!! The exhaust vent in the bathroom on 2 occasions leaked yellow water that smelled of sewer. This obviously was not the first time this had happened judging by the rust around the vent and the rusted screws holding the cabinet below it to the wall. The windows did not open and close properly with th knobs that are turned to open the windows falling off and the sliding glass door off of it track so it had to be dragged open and shut. Positively the furniture was comfortable. The washer and dryer worked well and was a plus to have in the room. The kitchen was well provided for. Property Manager Response: Response from Captain Cook Real Estate When the guest reported the air conditioner rattle, our maintence staff was sent to take care of it, we followed up the next day and the guest said it was fine. We do not use magazines in regards to installation. Unfortunately we were not told of the bathroom exhaust vent leak during the guest stay. We have reported this to the Building Manager of Fairway Villa this is a building issue. The windows and sliding door are being addressed by our maintence staff. Fantastic sundeck with panoramic view of ocean, mountain and Diamondhead with hottub, swimming pool and sauna. Thought building across us would have a fishbowl effect on us but the morning sun hits them, so you get the shade and privacy. The vertical blinds are great to shutout the fishbowl effect in the late evening. The lanai (balcony) is large so you can really relax and have breakfast, lunch or dinner outside. All-in-all nicely done! They even gave us a guest shampoo, soap pack with lotions and stuff! The highspeed Internet was very convenient for us too.
