Location and History:
The house is located in Dassel, the eastern gateway to the park Solling-Vogler Nature Park. You get to live in a historic building. The city of Dassel itself dates back to 14th century.
During the period of 1350 to 1400, the town's city wall was built in sandstone. On the south side, Balderturm stood as one of the 7 towers until it was demolished in 1820.
The house was built with the stones and timber from the tower. A small stable was annexed at the end of the 19th century. Some features from the old tower have been preserved such as a wall section with loopholes and the foundation walls that are now part of the basement. The sandstone slabs in the dining room are also from the old city wall.
The first phase of the renovation took place in 2005. In May 2011, the roof was redone and the attic was added to create more space for guests. Today, the holiday home combines modern comforts with the charm and atmosphere of a historical German house.
Highly recommended: a visit to the nearby town of Einbeck, world-famous for hosting one of the oldest breweries in Germany. Also worth visiting is the university town of Göttingen located 45 minutes away.
Walking, jogging, and bicycling in the Solling wooded area are some of the popular outdoor activities. Mushroom picking opportunities are especially good as well.
