Stayed for 7 days in February, 2012 Beautiful location, exquisite sunset and ocean access, a longer ladder below water would enable struggle free exit from surging tide for those of us older than 20. Balcony furniture is in need of replacement-sun scorched and weak. Our Vonage phone did not work the first 4 days we were there (thank god for wonderful neighbors downstairs whwn we had a medical issue). Luis was on it but it was during Carnival and repair required multiple visits and parts...Housekeeping was a bit over zealous with washing all of the towel constantly ( and leaving them in the over heated dryer which shut off after 4-5 hrs of use) maybe there could be a sign option for renters to choose every other day instead of everyday for laundry. Cupboard door over microwave is falling off it's hinges so can't be used. Christine went to the pharmacy for me and within 2 hours brought me the antibiotics I told her I needed (saving me a $75 visit to a physician and also getting me "local" prices for the drugs). Best for the price for sure. Unit 201 had everything we needed. Our only suggestion is that the owner spend a little extra money updating the condo & making some needed repairs. We did not rent a car and had no problem flagging down taxis when needed, for the ride to town that cost about US$5. I will definitely reserve this unit on a future trip! The snorkeling was excellent! Overall the unit was clean and nicely furnished. The kitchen was well stocked for those who would like to "cook at home". However, we felt that several upgrades were in order; i.e.: the sliding screen doors don't slide, the bathrooms are very outdated and the entire unit could stand to be re-painted. All that being said, we still enjoyed our stay. It is a short walk to 12 minute walk downtown. We did not need a car/taxi.We would definitely stay at Cantamar again. We had to throw out uncooked squid and chicken. The FREE international phone did not work. Get rid of the artificial flowers and dollies (sp). Tidy up ALL cupboards. Leave surfaces clear, so guests can put their stuff down. For a unit that sleeps 8, to have patio chairs that only seat 2 was not adequate. Get thicker cushions for the lounge chairs. Dining room and living furniture were very nice. The outside and pool were well maintained. Loved the palapas and the "beach". Having all the books were great. Cantamar 101 and 201 Patricia B. from Aurora, CO does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in October, 2008 No book of instructions in 101 - had to figure things out on our own. Mgr knew this, but did not seem to care. Asked for ironing board and never got one. No hot water, had to ask for it to be turned on which took two days. On 2nd day toilets stopped working and could not use bathrooms until the 4th day when we were moved to unit 201. This unit had the book of instructions. However, the washer only worked on hot water, which was turned to lukewarm. We had to turn the temp up ourselves on the hot water tank to be able to take hot shower. The refrigerator was cool but not cold - had to ask for it to be turned colder because the cold dial was removed. The master bedroom shower had no water pressure - could not get the shower head to spew any water, so had to use the shower in the 2nd bedroom only. Tv and dvd did not work so we reported to manager, but did not get it fixed for 3 days - until the 2nd to last day of our stay. Vonage phone not turned on at all. At this point we had given up on receiving any help. Overall very disappointed with management of both units. Will not stay in either again. We heard stories on the island about the manager having issues with stealing from the safe, although it was never proven. This led to our discomfort with the safe and we kept as much of our valuables with us as possible. Only 1 negative, we had a problem with the hot water, seems that the heater was not working properly. However the manager did attempt to fix it but water was still only tepid.Pool was great, cleaned everyday and the sand beach was "combed" most days. Maid service very efficient.
