Nestled in Claiborne MD, Old Oak Cottage is a 1920s step back in time to Claiborne - an unincorporated community on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Between 1890 and 1952, the village was a busy port for passenger and then automobile ferry service across the Chesapeake Bay. Old Oak Cottage is a well situated home base for exploring Eastern Shore towns such as St. Michaels, Tilghman Island, Easton and Oxford. The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum is minutes away. Take a right vs. a left on St. Michaels Road and find yourself in Tilghman Island, exploring a Skip Jack or diving into a bucket of oysters! A few miles further past St. Michaels discover Easton with its art galleries, fine dining and live music. Oxford is a ferry ride away to a historic village with waterfront parks and dining. You can also be where you are on Old Oak's front porch, watching the quiet village. A stroll down the back alley you will find the Claiborne Beach to stick your toes in the sand and relax. A boat/kayak takeout is also steps away from the Claiborne Beach for those who venture to be on the water. Cozy and updated yet retaining its almost century's old charm. A wonderful vacation under the old oak tree A guest from Convent Station, NJ recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in August, 2012 Old Oak Cottage was the perfect spot for our family getaway. Our first stay on the Eastern Shore, we loved the quaint little town of Claiborne with it's beautiful sunsets and easy access for kayaking. Yet shopping and dining in St. Michaels was so convenient. The cottage was perfectly appointed and it was nice that we were able to bring our dog with us. All in all, a great vacation, we will definitely return to the Eastern Shore soon! Kitchen and bath Tim W. from Latonia, KY recommends this property. Stayed for 6 days in July, 2012 Just a few recommendations. I would add a flush mount ceiling fan in the Kitchen, Got pretty warm in the kitchen. Also, I would replace the claw tube, it fits the age of the house however, it is not practical for all age groups and sizes. I am 5'8" and I had a hard time in the shower. My son is 6' and he had a real hard time, Also, the tube sets to high, climing out was a tad dangerous. Other wise, it was great I would recommend to anybody. Nice, relaxing spot A guest from Brooklyn, NY recommends this property. Stayed for 5 days in July, 2012 We enjoyed several days at this cute and comfortable cottage. Though it was too hot to enjoy the big yard or spend much time outdoors, we were grateful for the central air conditioning. There wasn't a whole lot to do in the St. Michaels area, but the town pool was a godsend - we spent a few hours there every day. Overall, we liked this house and enjoyed our visit! Wonderful stay, just too short... Rick C. from Waxhal, NC recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in May, 2012 We needed a place to stay in the St. Michaels/Easton area for my daughter's graduation from St. Michael's H.S., and after looking for days & coming up with NOTHING (ALL area hotels were booked), we finally called the good people at ESVR. I called because everything listed on their site was out of our price range, and I'm glad I did! Even though I had seen the property we stayed in on their website, I was unaware until speaking with someone that they were running a special on some of their new properties, which actually brought it down into our price range! The house is in Claiborne, which was convenient for our purposes. It is located in a charming, quiet neighborhood, a block from the water. The house was well stocked, everything you need except for your food and toiletries. It even had an "honor" wine bar! Need a bottle and the stores are already closed? Grab a bottle from the rack and drop ten bucks in the piggy bank! Sweet! My only complaint? It could have been cleaner. It wasn't "dirty" so to speak... but there were cobwebs all over the front porch, screened porch, and in corners in the house. Also, a LARGE (2" long x 1/2" wide)shard of glass on the kitchen tile, apparently from a previous guests' broken wine bottle... Having a 22 month old son, I was QUITE ticked upon that little discovery. We remedied these issues within our first two hours there and the rest of our stay was fantastic. Having a daughter and a mother that used to do that line of work, I can tell you that it is unacceptable, but I wasn't about to let it ruin our time with my family. Quaint cottage, near public-access beach, peaceful getaway A guest from Silver Spring, MD recommends this property.
