If you enjoy all that Big Sur has to offer; including stunning hiking trails, Pfieffer State Beach and Park, beautiful forests and streams, but also like to be close enough to Carmel-by-the-Sea to enjoy fine restaurants, the best shopping and the beautiful white sands of Carmel Beach, this home is for you. Rustic on the outside and finely appointed on the inside it has housed writers, celebrities, politicians (don't hold that against us), and a myriad of the who's who of the business world. Location Good - Amenities Bad A guest from Elk Grove, CA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2013 My wife and I went for our anniversary. We knew house ran on a generator and water was to be conserved. However, water merely trickled out of shower upstairs and alternated scalding hot and ice cold and never got warm downstairs. Electricity CONSTANTLY went out! We tried watching a DVD with no lights on and all known appliances unplugged. Electricity cut out every 10 minutes and DVD had to be restarted. Gave up. Similar experience with coffee maker in morning. No cell service and no land line in house. Master bed mattress is broken down so sags toward the middle. Three cable boxes - none worked. Asked for late check-out and was told to inquire day prior to leaving. Did so,left message and email, but was not notified until day of leaving which we were unable to know since no phone service at the home.
