Stayed for 3 days in March, 2013 The location of the villa was perfect, close to the pool, Gulf front with great view of the beach and sunset. However, the unit has not been maintained very well and is very outdated. The furniture was old and worn and the kitchen just barely adequately equipped. The dining table wobbled when we tried to eat dinner there. The unit overall was very worn and felt like it has been heavily used. It was a disappointment after having stayed in 3 other villas over the last few years.The owners should be urged to update and refresh the villa if they expect to charge the same rental fee as other units. The sand dunes and beach are beautifully maintained in agreement with nature. Even though our villa was not updated, it should have had clean looking furniture, area rug, sheets and a fresh smell about it. It had a dank and musty smell all during our stay. We had to have the sheets changed. The condition of the bikes and golf carts is shockingly poor and not in keeping with what should be considered a quality resort. ie. ripped seats and rust. I wondered why there weren't more singing tropical birds. Despite the maintenance issues, we might return because of the cheerful and helpful staff and incredible beaches and natural beauty of this island. Loved the ferry! Stayed for 6 days in January, 2013 We enjoyed being close to the pool/hot tub and were so pleased to find the gas grills. We cooked every meal but two on the grill. Thank you for the paper towels, coffee filters, and dish detergent. We bought sugar and salt and pepper in addition to other groceries. Couldn't tell if recycling was available. Lost an earring and couldn't find it. Loved the beach and views. Collected shells. Would have liked more organized tennis, but were there at a slow time. The Pro and courts were great. There was a noticable bulge in the ceiling which made me concerned everytime I took a shower (I stopped anyone from using the upstairs bathroom for the remainder of the stay) however when I called to have maintenance look at it he stated "it's not leaking anymore." When guests are paying for top tier facilities I think they should be able to fully utilize the facilities. This is my only negative comment, everything else was great! We actually stayed one week. Unfortunately the 1st unit we stayed Cindy B. from Tarpon Springs, FL recommends this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2012 in did not have a working stove/oven. We contacted management and were offered another, upgraded unit. We really did not want to have to move all of our belongings; fishing gear, wet beach towels, a refrigerator full of food, etc., we asked if the oven could be repaired. We were told the owner of the unit would have to be contacted and consulted. An "off island" appliance person arrived (he was not an oven repairman by trade)and found that switching the breaker on/off would allow the oven to start. We were willing to stay in the unit because dealing with the breaker was going to be easier than moving. Our excitement was short-lived when we discovered that the "breaker-fix" was no longer working. Each time we called the office we spoke with very apologetic, helpful personnel; unfortunately, due to their work schedules, the lines of communication were not clear. We eventually had to move. The unit we moved to was a very nice upgrade. The office even picked up dinner tab for us the first night we discovered that we couldn't cook a meal. The initial unit was not an "up-grade" and we were ok with that due to the close proximity to the beach. I have a long history with Palm Island Resort and was a little taken back by the initial unit. Just little things like: the contour sheet on the king bed had very little elastic left which left my husband and I in a pile of sheets each morning; the glass sliding door took two hands to pull open, the door-closer on the screen porch was partially unattached; the sofa was stained and really worn and the air-conditioner filter was filthy. Our first night in the unit both bedroom alarm clocks went off at midnight with the radio blasting; and the unit above us, which was vacant, had a radio that went off at midnight set on its highest volume. I called security and they turned off the music in the unit upstairs.I feel bad about making these complaints since your staff was very apologetic. The couch was extremely uncomfortable and the beds were so uncomfortable, we had to take a tylenol to get through the night. If this is the only condo available next visit, we will vacation somewhere else. Palm Island is beautiful, but in order to truly relax, a comfortable condo is a must. The kitchen counter tops, pots and pans were disgusting and we had just enough silverware for one meal. Additionally, since 3 kitchen cabinets were locked there was no place for storing groceries, they had to be kept on the counter tops. The cost of our vacation was high and our expectations were high, we felt let down. We are repeat visitors,( 12 years in a row and this is the worst) and will start looking elsewhere if we are not more comfortable next visit. Stayed for 2 days in November, 2010 we stayed in unit 1311. we were with a group of twelve people, so we had three different units. unit 1311 was clean but the decor of the unit and the condition of the furniture was lacking. there were hardwood floors that were in desparate need of refinishing and it looked like the unit had not been repainted since it was built. the two other units that we rented were beautiful. We did enjoy the two king beds in 1311 and that was really the reason we chose that particular one. Hopefully, the owner will be able to redecorate at some point. we had a fantastic time otherwise. this was my third trip to the resort and we will definately be coming back. I don't think I will choose unit 1311, as it is not up to par with the rest of the resort. The beach is beautiful and private, the villas are comfortable in the "old Florida" style and sunsets are an event. After returning to Palm Island again (22 years this fall), as usual, Palm Island was wonderful. On this visit, we noticed improvements at check-in, Rum Bay Restaurant, Coconuts and the Rum Bay Store. We would like to mention several staff members who made our stay enjoyable. Dustin was excellent as our server at Rum Bay. He is very professional. Andrea at Coconuts made us feel welcome, helped us with the cart rental and served the best ice cream. Sabrina has improved the store with a better selection of items for our stay there or to purchase for memories to take home. Dan from the Bell Stand took care of everything when picking up our luggage, taking us to the Reception Center and then loading our luggage in the car. He is always upbeat and helped make our leaving not as sad. Everyone in the Reception Center was helpful. At check-in, we received a large envelope with a map showing the location of our villa and inside the envelope, all the information we needed. Although we did not have a need for or see any of the Housekeeping Staff, our villa was clean and had all the supplies we wanted for our stay. Palm Island continues to improve in every area not only the staff and the amenities but the landscape and rental villas. We hope to return in December. I have recommended it to several church youth groups in the Orlando area and they have had a good experience. In recent years my daughters and I have made it a Mother's Day tradition to spend the weekend. We love the peace and tranquility of the resort. All we need is a beach chair and our umbrella! When I get back to finish out the school year I brag about our visit. You should have an increase in bookings within the next several weeks. I also heard a radio station mention a stay at PALM ISLAND as a prize last week. It seems that my SECRET PARADISE is no longer a secret anymore. I'd like to see more discount offers especially for loyal customers and refferrals.
