Hidden costs. Very isolated A guest from North Port, FL does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in March, 2012 Staff did not inform us how the resort was run. You only get one pass per day to leave the island, which is by barge, if you need to leave more frequently it is $55! There is only one restaurant on the island and the service was terrible. You really need to rent a golf cart while your there because there are no vehicles allowed. This is another $50 per day! The beach was beautiful and secluded. The beach villa was also quite nice. The staff was very uninformative, you have to discover things as you go. If you go be prepared to be isolated from civilization and groceries/shopping. The unit had an awesome view, the staff was outstanding, the beaches were perfect. You could pick up shell by the millions or watch the dolphins. The on island restaurant was lovely - and had a nice menu. The wine and cheese basket was a nice touch. The unit's kitchen was nicely equipped and the linens and towels were nice quality. My only advice is to let the guests know about the ferry charges ($55) and whether or not they are included in the stay, and the mattress in our unit was horrible - like plywood and box springs! Stayed for 8 days in August, 2008 This is our fourth visit to Palm Island Resort and we had another very enjoyable and restful vacation. We had what proved to be a minor interruption of TS Fay in the middle of our stay, but we were moved to a Harbourtown unit in good time, which we were pleased about given that we were stranded on the island for 2 days without power in our 2005 visit. We were well-informed before the event. Our only complaint was that we were put up in a one-bedroomed suite, which proved quite cramped for the 2 nights that we ended up being housed there and had no contact afterwards to confirm it was ok to return - we eventually took it upon ourselves to return.We requested and received the same unit as in our last visit, which was pleasing and it was in similarly good condition as we had seen in 2006. We have several enjoyable meals in the Rum Bay restaurant and were well-served and also had similarly good experience in Johnny Leverocks on the night of the storm.We used the kayaks on a couple of occasions and have an enjoyable couple of hours watching dolphins. We also hired tennis rackets and had fun playing tennis, though the surface of the tennis court opposite our unit was badly cracked and in need of attention.Overall we had another throughly enjoyable stay on Palm Island and would continue to recommend it strongly to friends and colleagues looking for a true get away from it all vacation.
