Overlooking the swaying grasslands of Bali’s terraced rice fields, the Batu Karu Mountains and even the sea, six-bedroomed Villa Mana is not only spectacularly sited but also perfectly designed for admiring this magnificent 180 degree panorama. Subtle glimpses of the scenery can be caught from the dark depths of the glorious infinity swimming pool or from one of the lavish loungers scattered around it. But from the extensive roof terrace above, these subtleties disappear; circular cushioned sofas shamelessly soak up the scorching sunshine as the raw panorama of the rice paddies is unobstructively revealed. By dusk, sunset views from up here are so stunning and cocktail-inducing that you are left speechless as the fibre optic illumination of the stars takes over the sky.

Villa Mana’s generosity of space is celebrated via three levels and through a tropical, modern, open-plan design that creates few barriers between the indoors and the out. Soaring ceilings, deep terraces, sliding floor-to-ceiling glass doors and features such as a floating staircase, a massive roof terrace and an infinity pool only serve to continue the flow of boundaries and make the property feel bigger than it already is. Added to this is the liberal use of natural materials that give the property bags of character and enrich its chic tropical style: deep walls are coated with rough-hewn river stone, dark panelled wood, rattan or glass whilst the entire floor is poured black cement. Interiors are modern and minimal, although lavishly large sofas, private relaxing areas and multiple dining locations place a focus not only on design but on comfort too.

Deep, decked steps sweep theatrically down from the pool terrace to a large green lawn, bordered on three sides by paddy fields. Football and croquet are just two sports that can be played here. It's also a functional place for energetic children to let off steam. Villa Mana fully supports families – there’s a trolley full of pool inflatables, baskets brimming over with toys, and a home cinema – with plenty of spots for privacy, peace, or playfulness. The villa is fully staffed and the cook well-versed in both Indonesian and western cuisine which is prepared in the fully-equipped kitchen from provisions charged at cost on guest account.
