beautiful A guest from Trafford, Pennsylvania does not recommend this property. Stayed for 4 days in May, 2013 The home was beautiful, the view fantastic, the kitchen was great. Best of Canaan was helpful and welcoming at check in and was at the house within minutes when we couldn't get the gas fireplace turned on. This home however is not ideal for those who like to sleep in. No window treatments in the bedrooms made for great views but sleeping in on our vacation was a challenge. Stayed for 7 days in March, 2013 As a former owner (10 years) of a vacation home in Canaan Valley, I can testify to the fact that the name Best of Canaan means just that. Their management team will take excellent care of you during your stay. As for Northface Nine, it is a beautiful home with many top of the line features, such as Viking kitchen appliances and heated bathroom floors. But in the midst of all these wonderful features, there are some things lacking that could be remedied with little expense. Previous reviews have mentioned that there are no blinds or curtains in the bathrooms and bedrooms. Modesty aside, it is kind of hard to sleep late under those circumstances. There are enough plates, glasses, etc. to feed an army, but very few serving bowls. Calphalon pots and pans are abundant but there are no covered/uncovered casserole dishes. Beds are comfortable and have more than enough covers, but there are no throws to use in the living area, which tends to be cooler than the rest of the house. My point is that, with a little more attention by the owner, this could be a totally fabulous rental. One more thing that may be of interest. Only local telephone service is provided (some owners provide long distance as well). In this age of the cell phone that should not be a problem, but we seldom could get cell phone service (AT&T) at the house. We had no problem at the ski lodge. Nice Property A guest from Bristol, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in January, 2013 Eight of us stayed during a long ski weekend. The house was as described and there was plenty of room. Fix two things at the house and it will be great. The first, which is quite unusual, is there are no window treatments in the house. This is a problem in that the master bedroom has large sliding doors that open to a deck which spans the entire rear and one side of the house. This essentially means that there is no privacy should anyone walked to the end of the deck. Additionally there is a bathroom on the front of the house in which one can easily be seen from the house directly across the street. This is the major problem with the house and should be addressed. I've noticed other reviewers have mentioned this and I'm at a loss why the owner does not remedy the situation. Additionally it would have been nice if the sound system had cables with or could sync to an iPhone or iPod. Otherwise you can only listen to the radio tuner (couldn't receive any stations) or bring a CD.The rental company was easy to deal with and immediately responsive when the fireplace in the great room would not light and there were no linens for a foldout sofa.Overall was a good experience and I would stay there again even if I did have to bring a covering for the windows. Our grandchildren fell in love with the Mountaineer. We did miss having shades to the windows in bedrooms, especially where the little guys slept. The beds are very comfortable!! Every year myself and 5 of my best girlfriends get away from it all for a long weekend. This house was the perfect place to relax and recharge. The back wall of the house is predominantly windows allowing the outside to come in. It is very well appointed having top of the line appliances and fabulous bedding. Loved hearing the babbling brook outside the windows as well as while in the hot tub. Heated tile floors in the bathrooms and laundry area were nice even in July! Kitchen size allowed for plenty of cooks to pitch in on every meal and not get in each others way. The house also features surround sound speakers - don't forget your bluegrass music! The only slight disappointment was that the WIFI was non-existent on the 2nd floor. (But fine on the main floor.) I would happily stay at Northface Nine again! After the first night there, we discovered that was not a problem. With the brook outback and windows to open and get cross breeze, it was very pleasant, even in 99-102 degree temps. Northface Nine is an absolutely beautiful place. We enjoyed every minute we spent there. Even our experience with the visit from a bear was quite a thrill. If you are looking to get away, and you are in that area, you should plan to stay at Northface Nine. You will not be disappointed. Property management company was unprofessional A guest from Columbus, OH recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in October, 2011 We initially booked a different house (wind landing)and arranged for a late check in. We specifically ask the management to have the furnace on since the temperature were in the 40's. We were told they will do so. We arrived by 10 pm and the furnace was off,bad but gotten even worse when we tried to turn it on but did not work, it was broken. Best of Caanan put us in a diferent house (northface) but it was not what we paid for, we wanted a far away house and Northface is in the timberlane ski area which is in a very populated area. Stay away from this property managment company, they just don't do their job Property Manager Response: Response from Best of Canaan We are very sorry for your inconvenience. The furnace was on and working when we cleaned and checked the home earlier in the week. The furnace igniter unit went out and is being replaced. We did respond immediately to your call, came up to the house to try to repair the furnace and when it was determined that was not possible that night, we gave you a choice of homes for you to move to, including another home in the Timberline area where you were advised was a much more private area than the house your chose. We do all we can to fulfill our clients wishes and try to make repairs as soon as we are aware of the problem. Unfortunately appliances do break down from time to time but we can assure you every attempt was made to make the repair and move you to a comparable home. We are happy you found the Northface home in good condition and gave this home a 5 star rating.
