Hidden down a sidestreet in downtown Bordeaux is a welcoming and comfortable family home, refurbished to a high standard and offering spacious accommodation for up to 9 people - plus babies. The house is a traditional "echoppe" (Bordelais cottage) and is within easy walking distance to all amenities and trams. The property has been refurbished to a high standard, retaining many original features - the panelling was handmade by the carriage maker who first owned the house over a hundred years ago. There are five bedrooms and three bath/shower rooms. Free parking outside the house - utter luxury in Bordeaux!.

Downstairs: Open plan living area with spacious entry hall, very well equipped kitchen with double fridge/freezer, range cooker, granite island, spacious pantry and a dining table which seats 10. There's a lounge with hifi surround sound, wifi, dvd player, ipod/MP3 link and widescreen tv (cable). Patio doors lead out to a courtyard terrace featuring a dining area with table and bistro chairs, a bbq and plancha, a fairground horse and a selection of children's toys. There is a small garden with a productive vine (help yourself to grapes in season!).

Across the courtyard is a separate cottage with two double bedrooms (mezzanine), shower and WC. Both these bedrooms have seating areas.

Also on the ground floor is the laundry room with a washing machine and cooking and cleaning facilities. The house has a centralised vacuum cleaning system.

Upstairs there is a master bedroom with four poster bed, ensuite bathroom and walk-in shower, a further double bedroom and a single bedroom (mezzanine). There is also a family bathroom and separate WC All the bedrooms have plentiful cupboards. Original oak flooring throughout the main house - lino in the kitchen and pine floors in the mezzanine bedrooms.

Travel cot(s), high chair and changing table provided.

The house is on a very quiet road with easy parking. The local square which holds the weekly market is a couple of minutes walk away and has an excellent boulangerie (handmade breads, brioche, viennoiserie, patisserie, chocolates and ice cream), a pharmacy, a tabac, an epicerie, a couple of restaurants and a small children's playground. True to local tradition, oysters are sold here by a local producer on Sunday mornings; they can be opened for you if you wish - they even sell lemons. The Bordeaux cycle system (velolib) is also available from the square; Bordeaux is extremely bike-friendly, with cycle paths into town and along the quais.

There is a local supermarket a few minutes walk from the house. There are also numerous hypermarkets and shopping centres accessible by tram or car.

The nearby Botanical gardens are worth a visit.

You can walk or cycle into town - along tree-lined Avenue Thiers, across Place Stalingrad (the controversial Blue Lion statue is much mocked by the locals) and over the Garonne river by the Pont de Pierre. Here you have a choice - you can walk straight ahead past the monumentous 16th century Porte de Bourgogne and along cosmopolitan Cours Victor Hugo into town. Or you can turn left on the quais towards the bustling St Michel district with its riverside sports stadiums, colourful daily markets and stunning church. Alternatively you can turn right and meander along the quais to the magical miror d'eau - favourite meeting place of the cogniscenti and tourist alike - and walk along the river towards the historic Chartrons quartier which owes its wealth and splendour to the wine trade. And when you have done enough walking, you can always hop on a tram home!

Easy access by car to the wine region and the Atlantic coast (Arcachon, Cap Ferret, Pyla). For the more adventurous, the Spanish border is under three hours drive from the house and makes a fabulous day out.....

Warm in the winter and cool in the summer, the house is ideal for a city break (no need for a car) or as a base for touring the Bordeaux wine region. This house is suitable for a family or for two couples, with or without children; the property is child friendly.

Cleaning materials and teatowels provided. Bedlinen and towels on request.

No smoking in the house.
