Snow King Ski Getaways
Snow King, Wyoming's oldest ski area, is in downtown Jackson, about 12 miles from Jackson Hole Ski Resort. Despite its in-town location, crowds don't exist here except for special events.
The north-facing slopes plunge 1,571 feet, with some trails literally dropping out from under you. The steep, consistent pitch makes it a favorite for European World Cup teams, who often train here before events at Park City, for visitors who like to open throttle on manicured groomers and for local powder pigs who head here instead of fighting the tram crowds at Jackson Hole. Sixty percent of the mountain's 400 acres is rated advanced, and that includes some bump runs and glades; Bearcat to Bearcat Glades is a corker. Beginners and lower intermediates have a few gentle runs on the lower mountain. Another plus: The 'Wow!' views from the 7,808-foot summit.
