Eagle River Lake Getaways
The Eagle River area in Northern Wisconsin is surrounded by the Eagle River Chain of Lakes, the world's largest inland freshwater lakes. The 28 bodies of water cover a total of 3,928 surface acres.
The Eagle River-Florence Ranger District covers the northern portion of the Nicolet side of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Counties in the Ranger District include Vilas, Oneida and Forest. Areas of special interest to outdoor enthusiasts are Blackjack Springs, Headwaters and Whisker Lake Wilderness Areas. Combined, the three wildernesses offer 30,500 acres of undeveloped land affected primarily by the forces of nature while offering outstanding opportunities for solitude. The Argonne Experimental Forest is located in the southwestern area of the District near Pine Lake.
The numerous recreation offerings on the District include hiking, mountain biking, backpacking, camping, picnicking, swimming, fishing, wildlife viewing, canoeing, nature study, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling.
