Located on the French Broad River, Douglas Lake is in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. The lake is near the popular tourist towns of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. With over 550 miles of shoreline and an area greater than 30,000 acres, there are enough activities in Douglas Lake for everyone. It is no wonder that it attracts 2 million or more visitors per year. The average maximum depth is 140 feet. One reason for this is because it is fed by two rivers, the French Broad River and the Nolichucky River, both originating from the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.

Douglas Lake offers has plenty of activities like picnicking, boating and fishing. From late July to October, birdwatchers come and observe waterfowl, shore birds and wading birds as they rest on the shoreline and shallow waters.
