Lake Nantahala is in North Carolina's beautiful Smoky Mountains. The Cheoah Ranger District has 120,000 acres in Graham and Swain Counties. These lands adjoin four large mountain reservoirs and contain numerous streams. The Appalachian Trail and other forest trails make up a network of some 225 miles.
Fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, hunting, hiking and view scenery are some of the more popular forest attractions. There are trails for the handicapped, the horseback enthusiast, those out for a short walk and the backpackers. Several lakeside, streamside or scenic developed campgrounds and picnic areas offer a wide variety to the visitor.
