Albemarle Sound Lake Getaways
Albemarle Sound is an inland body of mainly fresh water separated from the Atlantic Ocean by the Outer Banks barrier islands. The water in the sound is mostly shallow and there is not a tide. The source water is mostly supplied by the Chowan and Roanoke Rivers. Albemarle Sound is also the historic site of a civil war battle. Another historical landmark is nearby Kitty Hawk, the location of the Wright Brothers' famous first flight. Visitors to Albemarle Sound tend to enjoy power boating, sailing, and fishing.
