Stinson Lake Lake Getaways

Since the White Mountain National Forest is located so close to the major metropolitan areas of the northeast, it is easily accessible by the highway. But rest assured, once you enter the park, the best sights to see are available only by hiking off the beaten path. One of these beautiful sights is Stinson Lake itself, a clear gem located in the heart of the park, nearby all of the natural beauty that New Hampshire has to offer.

The lush forests of the WMNF are also great for skiing, both downhill and cross-country. Additionally, a popular activity in the White Mountains is peak-bagging, which is a slang term for mountain-climbing and hill-walking enthusiasts who attempt to reach the summit of a collection of peaks. In the WMNF there are 48 "four-thousand-footers" which are normally the goal of all peak-baggers to conquer. The tallest of these is Mt. Washington, the tallest mountain in the northeast United States at 6,288 feet.
