Squam Lake Lake Getaways

lake getaways

Squam Lake covers over 3,000 acres in New Hampshire's Lakes Region. Squam Lake gained fame as the set for the movie "On Golden Pond", which inspired guided boat tours that are still given today. Canoes, kayaks, and sailboats are rented out by the Squams Lakes Association, which maintains Squam Lake as well as Little Squam Lake and White Oak Pond. For those bringing their own boats, the main access location is on the Squam River. Other popular activities at and around Squam Lake include swimming, golf, tennis, and fishing for small mouth bass and salmon. During the winter, visitors enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating. If you feel like going for a hike, many well-maintained trails wind through the mountains around the lake. The Science Center of New Hampshire is located in the nearby town of Holderness. One of the unique attractions of the center is a wildlife trail where visitors can get an up-close look at rehabilitated wildlife. When flowers start to bloom, you can make a visit to Kirkwood Gardens, a park designed to attract birds and butterflies.
