Hermon Mountain Ski Getaways
A small family owned and operated area a few miles west of Bangor, Hermon Mountain has some surprising terrain hidden among its 350 vertical feet.
Skinny backcountry-style trails thread their way among the marked trails, sharing the woods with unofficial glades and small cliff drops. Some of those marked trails are pretty steep, too, but the intermediate stuff is fairly wide and the beginner terrain meanders around the perimeter of the hill, making the most of the vertical.
Snowmaking coverage is more than adequate and so is the grooming. Locals think the world of the ski school, the terrain diversity (about evenly divided among ability levels), the friendly staff, and the new half pipe. With a double chair and two T-bars, lift lines are not a problem. The cozy base lodge serves up traditional fare but with a home-cooked touch.
If you're planning a visit and the roads are at all slick, the first road you take to the area, Hinckley Hill Road, gets rather steep just before it ends abruptly at a T-intersection. Carry too much speed and you'll slide across the intersection!
