St. Simons Island Beach Getaways
St. Simons Island is one of Georgia's Golden Isles. This peaceful island is filled with history dating back hundreds of years. During the American Revolution, 2,000 live oak trees from St. Simons were used to make the USS Constitution, which was also referred to as Ironside"Old Ironsides" for its strength against cannon balls. Another important historical landmark is the St Simons Lighthouse, built in 1810. The island was also a huge center of cotton production during the mid 1800s.
Aside from immersing themselves in history, visitors to St Simons today enjoy biking, catching a show at the community theater, nature tours, kayaking, and sailing. Another popular attracting is Little St Simons Island. The nearby island can only be reached by boat and is renowned for the seclusions it offers guests.
