Woodbury Ski Getaways
More of a winter playground than a ski area, Woodbury has something for everyone. Owned by former Olympian Rod Taylor, this small family area in the Litchfield Hills just 25 minutes northwest of Danbury offers a wide variety of winter activities.
There's skiing and boarding, of course, much of it centered on the large open slope above the base lodge. Served by a T-bar and a double chair, there's lots of room for turns here. Turn left as you exit the double chair for tighter trails in the old style.
But there's more than open slope or trail riding here. There's a special mogul run, two half pipes, a quarter pipe, a large terrain park with multiple hits, a tubing and sledding park with a dedicated lift, and seven kilometers of cross-country trails. (An additional 20 km of groomed Nordic trails are available in nearby Steep Rock State park.)
All this stuff is covered by snowmaking, including over two kilometers of cross-country terrain, so you can be assured of finding some snow to play on from sometime in October through March. And you can play late, too - Woodbury leaves the lights on until 10:00 p.m. most nights, and two kilometers of cross-country trails are lighted.
