Ski Sundown Ski Getaways
Up in the northwest part of the state where the hills start to get a little taller and a little steeper you'll find Ski Sundown. With a good mix of trails (and nearly all of them with night lighting), a decent vertical, and nearby lodging, Ski Sundown presents an alternative to a bigger area, especially for those looking for a resort experience closer to home.
Beginners get their due here in a number of ways. Big Bend, Sensation, Sno Way, Breezeway, and Little Joe form a pod of gentle trails served by a triple and a double chair and conveyor (carpet) lift. Budding freestylers will find a progressive terrain park on Sensation. For solid wedge turners, or boarders comfortable turning on both sides, Tom's Treat provides a one-mile run from the summit. Vary that route by taking Panhandle, Over Easy, or Papoose.
Intermediates can cruise Canyon Run, Exhibition, or Nor'Easter which usually sports moguls. The more advanced have a choice of Temptor, Stinger with varying terrain features, and Sundown's signature black diamond trail, Gunbarrel.
Two triple chairs serve all the trails from the summit. Down at the bottom, a compact base area houses a full range of services, including a Welcome Center, the ski and snowboard school, a cafeteria and lounge, rental and repair shop, a retail shop, and children's services. With 100% snowmaking and a large (for the area) grooming fleet, conditions at Ski Sundown are reliable.
