San Luis Obispo vacation rentals are a great way to spend time on California's central coast. Famous for being the home of California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo is a gorgeous mid-sized town with an ever-present view of the mountains. The two largest mountains, Bishop Peak and Cerro San Luis are incredibly stunning and one can climb the former with some time and effort. Perhaps most historically significant in the area is the Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, built in 1772. Presided over by Junipero Serra, the Mission is among the oldest buildings in California, and the downtown of San Luis Obispo is carefully constructed around it. Speaking of the downtown, it is home to a number of eclectic shops, many locally owned. Another fascinating draw for tourists to the area is the Farmer's Market which is held every Saturday and features live entertainment.

San Luis Obispo is the location of the Hearst Castle, the extravagant home of newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Other kitschy aspects of the town include Bubble Gum Alley, in which people have been sticking their pieces of chewed gum since the 1960's(the gum covers every inch of the entire alley today), and the location of the world's first Jamba Juice. If you decide to visit with your children, check out the Marine Mammal Center which supports sea rescue and other stranded animal operations.
