Santa Monica Getaway Information
Santa Monica is perhaps most famous outside of Los Angeles for "Dogtown", the legendary community in which modern skateboarding was born. This beachfront city is also home to many historic landmarks, including the Santa Monica Looff Hippodrome, a carousel which sits on a beautiful pier. The Santa Monica Civic Auditorium hosted the Academy Awards in the 1960's, and the Santa Monica Promenade is home to several theaters.
Santa Monica State Beach is a popular place for a variety of recreation pursuits. The beach itself is wide, covered with white sand and two miles long. A paved promenade stretches southward to Venice and beyond. Facilities at this site include a picnic area, fishing pier, restrooms, food concessions and volleyball courts. Visitors will find lifeguards on duty during the day.
