Jackson Getaway Information
With the Teton Range as a backdrop, the Jackson Hole area is one of the most scenic and popular areas for outdoor recreation in the Rocky Mountains. The world renowned Jackson Hole Ski Area is found here. Many of the developed summer recreation facilities on the Jackson Ranger District are located along the Gros Ventre, Snake and Hoback Rivers. The Bridger-Teton National Forest offers comparable outdoor experiences without the tourist numbers of adjacent Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. The Gros Ventre Wilderness, just east of Jackson, covers much of the eastern portion of the District.
Summer visitors are drawn to the mountains and rivers of the Jackson Ranger District for its world-class fishing, its hiking and backpacking, camping, hunting and sightseeing. Abundant winter snowfall and excellent terrain draws downhill skiers and snowboarders from around the world to Jackson Hole Ski Area, located northwest of the town of Jackson. Winter visitors to the area also enjoy the plentiful opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
