Venice Getaway Information
Venice is a quaint vacation town that closely resembles its eastern namesake. The town sits on the Myakka River along the Gulf of Mexico coastline and is intertwined with canals, making the comparisons to the European city uncanny. The beach itself is known for shell and fossil collecting, particularly that of ancient shark's teeth, due to the fact that a prehistoric shark burial ground is located just offshore.
The picturesque boutiques and shops that occupy the greater Venice area allow the city to retain its peaceful texture. Many of the shops along Venice, Tampa, and Miami avenues are housed in restored buildings of the 1920s that are now on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The restaurants in the area feature everything from indigenous to international cuisine including Italian of course.
