Fort Walton Beach Getaway Information
Boasting sugar-white beaches and 343 days of sunshine a year, Fort Walton Beach, FL is a beach lover's dream. Located on the Florida panhandle, Fort Walton Beach offers tourists a myriad of things to do, see and experience. For a town of its size, Fort Walton plays host to a large number of museums and aquariums. For water-lovers, the Big Kahuna Water Park and Florida's Gulfarium should be points of interest. The former is home to over 25 acres of water rides and an adventure park featuring a tropical mini golf course. The latter offers a spotted dolphin encounter, in which visitors come "hand to fin" with resident dolphins. As far as museums are concerned, Fort Walton tourists can visit the Air Force Armament Museum, the Emerald Coast Science Center and the Indian Temple Mound Museum.
Parasailing, scuba diving, snorkeling and water skiing are all popular past-times in Fort Walton. Fishing gurus will find their nirvana in Choctawhatchee Bay. Boats can be chartered for half or full days. An experienced fisherman can catch everything from grouper to marlin. Those with less experience can partake in other types of fishing: surf fishing, net casting and trapping are all local favorites.
